How is overeating an eating disorder?!??!?

I think it gets me sick when people say that!! So what if I overeat???? I overeat because I really enjoy food!

It's not a disease. The more you eat, the larger your stomach can handle. It's not an addiction/disease if you eat more ..... it's just what you made your body get used to.

I am tired of skinny people and their labels. Enjoying food is NOT a disorder.

Nope, it isn't a disorder. It's just a sign that your appetite is out of control. Or in some cases a sign that you have emotional issues (sometimes we overeat due to stress or depression).

The more you eat, the more weight you put on, and the more you *have* to eat in order to sustain a bigger body size. It's a vicious circle but not an eating disorder.

I hate that everything is a disorder these days. It is a sign that people are unwilling to be responsible for their actions - if it's a disorder then it is out of their control. I have to give you kudos for owning your habits and choices!! Good for you.

Being addicted to the taste of food and eating past the point at which you are satisfied is a disorder. Don't kid yourself. If you behave in such a manner, you have a problem.

Pedophiles don't think there's anything wrong with them. either.

No you're right, enjoying food is not a disorder. Continuing to eat when you're already full IS.

Also, why would you want to enlarge your stomach, just because it can "handle" it? Being overweight isn't healthy last time I checked??

Actually there is an eating disorder called Compulsive overeating......

Compulsive overeating is the excessive consumption of food (bingeing), often thousands of calories at a time. People with Compulsive Overeating have what is characterized as an "addiction" to food. They often use food and eating as a way to hide from their emotions, to fill a void they feel inside, and to cope with daily stresses and problems in their lives.

However in you case I don't think you have the disorder.

People with Compulsive Over Eating tend to be overweight, are usually aware that their eating habits are abnormal, but find little comfort because of society's tendency to stereotype the "overweight" individual.

enjoying food isn't a disorder... but eating more than you can is gluttony.

plus, you can run into some health problems in the future if you eat too much junk.

Over-eayting becomes an eating disorder if yuu binge then starve for a while then binge again or purge(make yourself sick_) then it can become bulimia or binge-eating disorder,,,,eating disorders arent funny people cant help it if they want to be a certain way !

hope this will help.

The problem is that overeating can make you have more diseases such as diabetes mellitus, hypertension and hypercholesterolemia...

If you mean "disease" like something like "Aids" that you can catch or be born with, no!!!

However, it's an illness that we caused. It was more by choice than most diseases.

It when you don't have enough common sense to realize you're killing yourself. We are to eat to live not live to eat. Everything in moderation is fine.

I grew up being told to eat ALL the food on my plate regardless of being full or not. I had to eat all my food and if I didnt I would be in trouble so I quickly kind of grew up overeating by default b/c that is how it was. I like food lol.

Lol, I wondered the same thing how overeating is labeled an eating disorder. I actually have an issue with it myself! Very rarely do ppl ever talk about non-purging bulimics and overeaters when they mention eating disorders...I would fit into that classification, well I would have. I mean I never really saw it as a disorder I just like food but I did not want to have a weight problem so I would binge and then starve/work-out. I think I have gotten much better but I still enjoy food, I doubt that will change but its like I would eat so fast I would not really know that I was overeating. Sometimes, I would know I overate and feel so guilty for doing so because it was out of idleness.

I actually dont have a real weight issue, I'd be considered a healthy person with an ideal BMI for my age. At times, I do wish I could lose like 10-15 pounds but that is just me being very self-critical. I have a slim/athletic build. I dont think a person should be skinny or be fat I think people should desire their health and to be healthy.

Overeating is not wrong unless you binge and starve like I did or if you binge and throw up like a bulumic. If you dont do those things and dont have weight issues (are considered healthy) it really is not a big deal as ppl would make it seem. So many ppl starve themselves to be thin and that is sick to me. People almost act like its okay because they will say a skinny person looks good over someone who is not. I have seen ppl look bad that were skinny. It goes both ways. I just think the whole thing is stupid. If you like how you look and ok with that I dont see what is wrong with overeating. I mean if you are bulimic or not healthy then yes its a problem!

Edit: I guess I agree with Nikki H...I realize that sometimes I go too far with it but I am not overweight so perhaps I am not a "compulsive overeater". I do consider myself someone who is an over-eater at times like Maria. I would not say I am an emotional eater because when I am sad I will not eat at all. I only eat when I am hungry, happy or there is something I like available to eat. Btw, I hate buffets! And ppl watching me eat...

ENJOYING food and eating a lot is not a disorder. COMPULSIVE over eating is. don't be so ignorant, it's ******* annoying.

your right, eating alot of food isnt but stuffing yourself to the point where ur stomach hurts is. your not eating because your hungary at that point. it is a disorder. its called binge eating disorder and its fairly common especially with people who are "fit" because they are so strict on diet. during a typical binge, the person eating dosent even care what their stuffing into their mouths so dont tell me its because their tryiing to "enjoy" it. get ur facts straight before u start trying to tell other ppl what is and is not a disorder. normal eating is stoping when your stomach is full

Well, just as extreme undereating is due to psychological causes, so is extreme overeating. Some people overeat to dull emotional pain.

It can be a disease. Every skinny person is not anorexic just as every fat person doesn't merely love food.

Overeating a bit because you like food isn't an eating disorder.

Overeating to an extreme because you rely on food for comfort, because it makes you feel good, or for other emotional reasons, is an eating disorder.

Binge eating disorder is very serious, and shouldn't be taken lightly. In fact, bulimia is a form of binge eating disorder -- the only difference is that bulimics purge themselves of the food and those with binge eating disorder do not.

The reality is this: we eat food for nutrition and sustinance. Enjoying it is okay, too -- but only to a certain extent. If you are overeating to the point that you're overweight, then you probably have an eating disorder (because you're abusing fod in ways that it wasn't meant to be). If you cannot control what you eat to the point where you're overweight, then you probably have an eating disorder (same reason).

If you're within a healthy weight range, then you're probably fine, because, like I said, eating for pleasure on occasion isn't a problem.

Believe me, though, I am a bulimic so I know just how "disordered" it is to overeat on a constant basis. Since I throw up, I'm on the thinner side, but I still have a problem because of how much I eat. Only you can know if you have a problem or not, but I wish you the best of luck.

overeating isn't an eating disorder. however, food addiction is. meaning you keep eating even though you are no longer hungry. and you over eat on a constant basis. that's how you get obese. if you're only over eating ever once in a while, there's nothing wrong with that. i've done that many times :).

for some people it is a disorder I too just enjoy food myself. But some people cant stop eating like crack addicts cant stop crack. When we eat are bodies release natural drugs and some people get addiced to it, just like runners high witch is an addiction to exercise again really an addiction to a natural drug our body releases

Overeating is just that. Eating OVER the amount recommended. It's not healthy for you and neither is anorexia or bulimia.
They are disorders because they are not normal.
If you feel like you're just enjoying food and eating a little more then you should, you probably don't have that disorder.
But being obese isn't healthy either.
If you can handle that..then so be it..but it's called a disorder for a reason..it isn't so some skinny person can put you down. You've already done that to yourself.
