Why do people develope eating disorders?

specifically anorexia/bulimia nervosa, and what goes through their minds?

It is about control, contrary to what some idiot above me said. For some, it might begin as a desire to look skinny but there are usually much deeper reasons. Maintaining control in a life I feel I had no control over, and also part of my OCD was why I developed it, along with a desire to take up as little space as possible and look ugly to men cos I was abused.

Its a way of coping with life,to gain control and to feel secure. Some people have it because they find it difficult to express their feelings and feel pressure to be 'perfect'. People with this disorder want to feel 'pure' and 'clean' by becoming thin and avoiding issues they have in their heads but they never achieve this 'purity'. It is a very destructive disorder. And very sad. I know of many who havent recovered.

The obviously lack the willpower to lose weight in a healthy and safe manner.

They have no regard for their own wellbeing, they only care about looking good because they let themselves be ruled by the media.

Extreme self esteem issues. They have to lose weight...NOW. Usually this is triggered by something stressful happening in their lives.
