Could eating disorders caused my miscarriage??

I had a miscarriage 5days ago, at 6 1/2weeks......im still devasted by it, and trying to understand why it happened. I was hit in the lower stomach, but i wouldnt have thought the hit was hard enough to cause it. I have suffered from anorexia & bulimia for about 5years or more, about a year ago it got to a lifethreatening stage. That was my wake up call, and since then with the help of my bf and therepy, i have had it under control. But could this have effected my body in a way that would have caused my miscarriage?? I did skip quite a few meals while pregnant (i had no idea i was pregnant, or i never would have done it!) Please can someone help me understand why this has happened!?!?

You can't try to figure out if, why, how, etc. Miscarriages are nature's way of sorting out the healthy babies. If you miscarried it means it wasn't growing properly or it wouldn't have been right. Women always try to blame themselves or figure out reasons why. If it's meant to be it will happen. Don't blame yourself or stress about it. I'm sure you would have much rather had this happen then go through the entire pregnancy and have a child that is severely unhealthy or a stillborn baby. It will be ok. :)

Yes you need to be in a basic healthy condition before you start trying to conceive. You can miscarry at any time for any reason regardless of your health, but an eating disorder might put a damper on a pregnancy. It could have been because your baby was not getting enough nutrition or it could be for lots of other reasons. Its best to not take any risks when you are pregnant, so next time just try to somehow overcome your eating disorder & tell yourself the baby needs you. Also maybe try to get some help. Take care & sorry about your loss.

Well it might be unlikely that the hit in the belly was the cause because when I was 6 months pregnant I fell down the 5 stairs stomach first and everything was fine( we have a huge dog and he knocked me over) See a doctor, maybe its something else.

poor neutrishion to the body
most likely unless it was a combo of the blow to the gut and the unhealthy diet......

your eating disorders are very likely a cause of it. Sorry! keep your chin up honeY!

How do eating disorders affect pregnancy?
Eating disorders affect pregnancy negatively in a number of ways. The following complications are associated with eating disorders during pregnancy:

Premature labor
Low birth weight
Stillbirth or fetal death
Likelihood of Cesarean birth
Delayed fetal growth
Respiratory problems
Gestational diabetes
Complications during labor
Depression
Miscarriage
Preeclampsia
Women who are struggling with bulimia will often gain excess weight, which places them at risk for hypertension. Women with eating disorders have higher rates of postpartum depression and are more likely to have problems with breastfeeding.

The laxatives, diuretics, and other medications taken may be harmful to the developing baby. These substances take away nutrients and fluids before they are able to feed and nourish the baby. It is possible they may lead to fetal abnormalities as well, particularly if they are used on a regular basis.

based on that information it's very well possable that having an eating disorder may have caused your misscarriage for more information of the topic click the link
