Therapists and eating disorders? |
I have an eating disorder. I regularly eat about 600-800 calories a day, then burn off 300-500 a day in the gym. But some days, I binge eat and can eat up to 4000 calories, but I've never purged. I'm constantly counting my calories and obsessing with my weight, but I want to stop. I've told my mom a little bit, just that I'm unhappy with my weight a lot, and she said she can find a good therapist for me if I want one. But I'm afraid, if I tell the therapist what I do, will I be sent away? My friend was sent away for almost three months and missed a LOT of school and might have to be held back. I don't want that to happen to me. Help? You have nothing to fear, you can be totally honest. Eating disorders are usually don't require inpatient treatment (being sent away). I believe your friend must have had many other problems that you did not know about, like slashing her skin (very common, and they hide it really well), plotting to kill herself, she may have even been molested. But not simply because of an eating disorder. i recovered an eating disorder, and the person above doesnt know what they are talking about. i had to be sent away for a month, but it was my choice and without it who knows if i would still be alive today. i didnt cut myself or anything like that, i was just sick of anorexia ruling my life. i was sick of having no energy and obsessing over food and weight. your friend, although missing school, is lucky. an eating disorder is a serious problem that can be fatal. if you cant get better on your own or even with a therapist, going somewhere to get help is the best thing to do tho it may not seem like it at the time. |
