How do you ask a friend if they have an eating disorder? And what can be done to help? |
The person is a friend but not a very good friend if that makes any sense. Any ideas? Other people have confronted her but she denies it... well if she has an ED its very difficut to comfirm this. i have an eating disorder myself. but its getting under controlled. if yu think she has one, talk to her in private and show her that yu care and want to help. explain how bad it is and how much damage it can do to her body. tell her to talk to her doctor or even a school conselor. dont go attacking her about it bc she may or may not have one. good luck hun =] Oh, this can be a hard topic. I think you might want to get someone who IS their like best friend to talk to them about it. Or you can just drop hints every once in a while to show this person you think they have an eating disorder. Offer them food an dif they refuse ask why? They'll probably give some false excuse, but if they do this too much you know they must have an eating disorder and you definetly need to confront them because this is very serious. It's really sweet of you that you want to help, but if she is not very close to you, i wouldn't bug her about it. Eating disorders are tough subjects, i would know as i have one myself. No matter what other people say, it doesn't make the person want to change. That person has to decide on their own that they want to get better and be healthy. The best thing you can do is tell her that you are there for her and are willing to talk if she ever wants to. Individuals with eating disorders need a lot of support and love to get better. are you at school together? perhaps you could slip some eating disorder leaflets into her bag/locker? then she can see that someone is thinking of her but you dont need to say anything direct.... |
