How can you say you have recovered from an eating disorder?

What is the "evidence"?

Is it just not caring as much, or being less fussy about what you eat - or what?
I think I am very nearly, completely recovered.
I no longer have this image that if I eat something that it is permanently going to stay on my body, and that if I do eat a lot/a bit of bad things that it can always be burnt off.

Hard to explain, but I'd just like to know what the "experts" consider a full recovery to be.

That sucks.
I mean you weren't born with it, but surely there is a way to get rid of it again?

For me, it was accepting myself as i am. i gained the weight back which is what i considered "recovery". i originally was at 125 so when i achieved that level again, i felt it was over. but i have had some lapses in the past year. but they were short.

consider it as alcoholism, only the opposite. an alcoholic is recovered when he no longer consumes alcohol. for someone with an eating disorder, its when they either can eat normally or eat without purging, depending on the circumstances.

good luck and im pleased for you

yeh i think i am about recovered now,
i think its when you will eat anything, and not care, not to say not being healthy..but i mean food isnt on your mind, you dont feel guilt to have something high in calories, or even any calories...

when calories dont really cross your mind as much anymore..
your not planning and savouring every bit you eat...

you just dont really give it your time of day anymore...

i got this from just saying one day i wouldnt allow myself to coutn calories anymore, and id eat whatever i felt and wanted, in a healthy manner...

i hope you are fully recovered...its such a waste of life obsessing over food, and dealing with eating diroders..i feel happy again...maybe thats recovery??
i was never happy when i had anorexia..

take care!

I think it's when you feel normal with food. And you are not always worried about how many calories something has. And you're not obsessed with losing weight anymore, and you're not weighing yourself 5 times a day. But also I think its one of those things that you can say you have recovered from, but it will always be there. But you can learn to live with it. And not do anything drastic anymore. Well I hope this answered your question. Good luck!

i have anorexia in the past and i can safely say you never 100% get over it but you learn to deal with it better in my case i eat very healthy and exercise the doctors class being compleatly over it by not worrying about ou put in your mouth but even doctors say once you have had an eating disorder you never compleatly get over it

i think its one of those things that you cant recover from. you can learn to live with it in a healthy way, but the eating disorder mentalitly will always be there

When you can eat what ever you want and when you feel you have been completely healed. ! Good Job !
