Going to the doctor's for an eating disorder?

Ok so i'm thinking about going to the doctors for an eating disorder. But i'm a bit scared and don't know what to expect.
Do i just book an appointment at the normal doctor's surgery? Will i have to tell my parents or can i go alone? Will they ask me to come back for regular check ups? I just want to go for that one time just to see how things go, i dont want to be tied down by having to go to some weekly weigh in or anything. I dont want my parents to find out and i know i can do it alone, i'm 17 years old, i'm not a child. Just wondering if anyone out there has been through the same experience? If so,what happens at the appointment?

-Book an appointment with the doctor's receptionist
-You should tell your parents
-They will probably ask you to go back for regular check ups

I know you don't want to be tied down for the follow-up appointments, but this is for your own good. If you don't do what the doctors say (and they are really experienced professionals), you won't get the best results.

At the appointment, you will probably be asked questions (e.g. how long have you had this disorder?) and be tested for height, weight and such.

The rest of the appointment depends on the type of disorder you have and how serious it is.

GOOD LUCK :)

If you are 17, you ARE a child. Since you are a minor, you will need your parents' or guardians' consent for treatment. However, what you talk about and what doctor says remains confidential.

You will just make an appointment and see the doctor. What happens next is entirely dependent upon the actual diagnosis and the course of treatment. YOU or your parents have the right to refuse any part or the course of treatment though. Unless your life is in danger or you are declared insane/incompetent, doctors cannot force you to do anything. They can suggest and recommend.

yes, you are a child. and how are you going to pay for the appointment? unless you're going to pay in cash, then your parents are going to have to know. yes, just call and make a regular appointment, and no one here can tell you how often the doctor will want to see you, that's up to him.

Hiya.
I have had Bulimia for 14 yrs, and a few months ago i went to the GP for help, and, like you, i was dreading it. I was terrified!
But, as it turns out, it was the best thing i have ever done...yes, the counselling that he refered me too, is hard, and yes, there are problems and pitfalls on the way..but it really has helped me...

Please go to the gp..its so worth it!
