Is it possible to have a eating disorder were you eat to much?

I don't do the whole starve myself or throw up what I eat thing, but I over eat. Until 2 years ago I was 5'4" 125 pounds. When I met my husband ( then boyfriend) I started to gain weight. Alot of my friends told me that was normal when you get into a new relationship. Now I have gained 80 pounds in the last 2 years. I used to blame my husband, then I started noticing that my portion sizes are the same as his. I want to lose weight but I find myself going back into the same habits as what I have been doing and I just don't know if it's habits or a disorder.

I'm not an expert, but it does sound as though you could be suffering from binge eating which is an eating disorder. Relationships can be stressful to keep and stress can lead to anxiety or even depression which is a common case for binge eating. Sometimes one tends to binge eat even when bored. You may want to ask yourself if you are stressed and why? There are many people out there who can help with eating disorders and never feel ashamed to ask for help.

If you are looking to lose some weight, I know a great website with many people on there who are very uplifting and helps you determine the number of calories you need to take in on a daily basis depending on your height, weight, and long term goal. www.sparkpeople.com Plus, it's free!

Men typically have a higher metabolism rate and even if you ate the same as he does, you could still gain weight.

It's possible your body isn't burning off properly (metabolically) but as we age, we're unable to eat like we used to.

I have the same problem - unable to lose weight no matter how hard I'm trying. I am the best (and smallest amount) eater in my family, yet I'm the heaviest. Go figure.

it is a disorder. make sure you get exercise, and when you eat, think about it, do you really want to eat that much? if you stop eating a lot for a little bit, you will shrink your stomach, which is a good thing. then you will start to not want to eat as much. all it takes is a little self control for a little bit of time. if you have the desire to lose weight, then you will be able to do it. you can do anything you set your mind to.

It doesn't really matter what you call it; if you feel you need help, you should seek help. It takes a lot of self-discipline to cut down on your food portions & start exercising. Brisk walking is a great activity to start with. Try eating more fruits, vegetables, whole grains & natural foods. Best of luck.

Yes. Overeating is an eating disorder. We use food to self-comfort and become addicted. It is both a habit and an addiction. Breaking the cycle requires as much conviction as it takes to quit smoking. Speak to your doctor.

It could be Binge eating and that is an eating disorder.

Yes.

Yes, you need to cut down on your eating. Though your portions are the same as his, that's really meaningless. To lose weight, you have to burn more calories than you consume. Men's metabolism is generally higher than women's, so they generally need a few more calories per day. Men generally are more physically active, which means they burn more calories.

It is very, very unlikely you have any "disorder" or "condition" making you gain weight. You need to adjust your caloric intake downward AND increase your level of exercise. It's really very simple, and at the same time, really REALLY hard to do - because it involves lifestyle change, and many people find that nearly impossible. Note I said "nearly". You can do it, hard as it may be. That's why it's important to enlist the help of others - such as your doctor, a nutritionist or dietician, and even your husband. He needs to be SUPPORTIVE, though, not critical. Wouldn't hurt him to attend a few classes on nutrition/weight control with you - not because he needs to lose weight (the lucky son of a b***) but because he needs to learn how he can best help you. Tell him from me; the guy with two professional licenses and degrees:::: Yo: you love her, dude, you'll help her!
