Plz help. eating disorder issue?

hiya. This is quite hard so please bare with me. For most of my adult life, I have had eating problems. I've always had those little voices niggling away. I've always felt over weight, but I've never gone so far as to say I have an eating disorder. This year has probably been the hardest. I have been suffering with depression (alone) and havent been out much. I'm always so down about my weight, and was convinced I'd put on at least 2 stone.

I have a fear of weighing scales and have avoided them for 2 yrs, but something made me get on them the other day and I found out I weigh little under 6 and half stone.

I took a picture of myself and cried my eyes out when I'd realised what I'd done to myself.

I've thought about goin to the dr's before, but I've always thought they'd laugh because I'm not that small.

I'm now 25 years old and 5 ft 2 inches.

please, any advice on how I could talk to the dr? I walked in yesterday and walked straight back out..

thank you

you can do it. i have...yes it feels a little ackward but they are totaly understanding. That is there job. you owe it to yourself to get the help. I did so you can too. YOu will feel so much better!!! please take care of yourself. Life is so short. if you are really worried start by looking up an eating disorder center in your area and call over the phone to break the ice and tell them you are coming.

Help for Eating Disorders

have faith in yourself... get someone to go with you.. like your mum.. or someone close..good luck!!

Hi. First of all, good for you in finally wanting to take some control over your life.
What I would do, in order to give myself some sense of 'dignity' when talking about this issue is the following:
When you sit down with the doctor, state your stark awareness of your 'problem' and that you know what is needed to help change your life/lifestyle, etc. Basically, you are being mature about this and admitting it exists and that you're reaching out to them for their professional advice in helping you get on with bettering yourself and your future.

I agree fully with you that having hidden the secret and then talking about it can be most unempowering to you and a real blow to one's sense of self. However, that is what I would do.

You know, eating disorders are rampant in today's society so don't feel like you're the only one ... not even close:)

Best of wishes:)
