Eating disorder maybe?

i work in a place with a lot of women
& there's this one girl who has only started working in our work
i think she has either anorexia or an eating disorder
she never ever eats during the 8 hours that she is at work
she said the other day that she wants to lose 2 stone...i would
say this girl is roughly 9 stone and i know for a fact that she doesn't get on with family...she says everyone in her family is skinny and she's the ugly duckling!!
she also recently said she was anaemic but i know she should be eating..she also makes quite frequent trips to the bathroom..and every friday our boss buys us pizza or chinese or something but she always finds an excuse to not sit and eat with us e.g. like i have to cover the phone system
What do i do..do i get my line manager to talk to her or what..i generally worry for her, i think if i got someone she really gets on with in work to speak to her..we're all quite older than her and she's very young so please help thanks

Leave it alone, it's her own business. I'm sure you wouldn't want the whole work place knowing about YOUR problems.

some people don't like to eat in front of other people. Don't jump to conclusions just talk to her, be her friend and she'll open up, if she's anorexic you'll be able to see her losing weight. Hopefully she's not.

I'm sorry but saying something at this stage could only make any situation worse. If she is genuinely suffering from an eating disorder then she will not even listen to her nearest and dearest until she is ready. If she isn't then I think it will just cause her embarrassment.

First things first don't ever judge. She may have a tyroid(sorry if misspelled) problem, which causes you to have a hard time gaining and keeping weight. It also does the opposite to other people they gain and can't lose the weight. As for her not eating pizza or any food at work, she may only eat healthy food(I know weird huh) and she may not like to eat in front of people!! I use to be the same way, if I didnt know you I wouldnt eat with you or in front of you. Most imporantly she's new to work so she's prob. really nervous. Why not try and be friends with her?? Thats really the only way to know, and if she does have a disorder, remember it's a disease.

I think it's lovely that you are so concerned about this new girl. Have you broached the subject to her? Have you mentioned your fears to anyone else? I worked with a girl who had eating problems too. We did talk to her about it, but she was our age. She was having problems at home and this was her way of controlling part of her life. She eventually ended up in a clinic for eating disorders and was away from work for 2 months. She looked so much better when she came back, but I know it took a lot of courage for her to admit she had an eating problem and it was because we were her friends and cared about her, that we felt able to talk to her.

Making frequent trips to the loo could signal more problems than just bulimia. If she's considerably younger than the rest of you, maybe that could be the reason she doesn't join in.

I think it would probably be a good idea to have a quiet talk with your line manager and see if she's noticed anything. Tell her of your fears and see if you two could come up with a way of broaching the subject with this young girl.

Tell her that she looks lovely as she is and shouldn't make herself ill by trying to be like the rest of her family. She is a person in her own right and that skinny is not the fashion nowadays. Long are the days since I was 9 stone and I would be quite happy to be that weight. Good luck, it's a tricky subject.

this is an extremely sensitive matter, and while i admire your concern, before you make any allegations to your line manager or anyone else for that matter, i would investigate more in to weather your suspicions are correct.
it may be possible that she prefers to eat healthy and thats why she opts to sit out of dining on take out foods with you, and its not unusual for people to go 8 hours without food, i never eat at work and then come home and eat dinner. also, if you get officials to approach her and she does have a problem she may feel resentful of you and this may destroy your friendship..
i would probably try getting to know her better, hanging out on the weekends~ this way you can get a true account of her real life habits, and then if you are concerned recommend she see a counsillor.. good luck!
