What kind of doctor deals with life problems and eating disorders? |
i want to talk to my dad about seeing a doctor to help me with my ongoing bulimia and how im feeling depressed due to the previous post i made... please read it because i need help. Jessica, You need to have your dad take you to your regular family doctor. Your doctor will be able to make a referral to either a counselor or a psychologist who specializes in eating disorders. Your depression is probably due to adjusting to the new circumstances in your life and the bulimia. You need to go really soon, because the longer you wait, the worse it will become. Both depression and bulimia are curable, but not if you don't go and see someone. Good for you! You have already taken a major step by deciding you want help. The medicine specialty that deals most directly with eating disorders is a Psychiatrist. But there are lots of roads of help including different kinds of counselors, e.g. clinical social workers, psychologists, doctors that specializing in Bariatric Medicine. Even your family doctor or OB/GYN should be able to give you a good referral. Sometimes family members, friends, and even some doctors want to make you feel better -- or soothe their own anxiety -- by telling you you don't have a problem. Remember, though, that you've already decided this is interfering with your life, so keep talking about it until you get the help you need. |
