I think my 9 year old friend may have an eating disorder...How can you tell for sure?

she likes to exercise allllll the time and she has set times for when she likes to eat and she only eats healthy foods like salad. she is really thin and short. She has some family issues going on right now, so could she get an eating disorder somehow from her family problems like being unhappy and stuff?

and she comments about how she used to be fat. (even though she was never fat)

People are getting younger and younger these days with eating disorders. There is a very likely chance that she has one. With the way things are going for her right now, if she doesn't have an eating disorder already she will. She already has a few unhealthy behaviors but she will start to get obsessed and it will become worse so have have to find help for her. Family problems and depression can lead to eating disorders. You have to tell her parents or your parents because she really needs help. Even if she tells you not to tell them you need to, because this can really really hurt her.

If she looks skinny, like too much bones showing, then that's anorexia. Ask her maybe?

sit down and have a talk with her
tell her how your always there for her
just keep an eye on her
