Which is worse? Being overweight or having an eating disorder?

Tell me what you think of all of this? I know both are bad but...if you had to be one or the other, which would you be?

havng an ED is worse cause it's a disease of the mind that is more difficult to battle than weight loss if you're overweight. you can always loose weight through diet and exercise but you can't always fix your mental problem and it can wreak havoc on your health as much as being overweight, if not worse.

First off....obesity is NOT an eating disorder like a few have said here.... Binge eating is a disorder where you consume large amounts of food compulsively in a short amount of time.
But simply eating more calories than you are working off is not an eating disorder. That is just simply poor lifestyle habits.

Being overweight or obese is bad for your LONG-TERM health because it can increase your risks for heart disease, stroke, and diabetes. However, that doesn't mean that you won't get those diseases if you eat healthy. Even skinny and healthy people get diabetes and high blood pressure. Obesity is just one factor that can increase your likelihood of getting those diseases.

Eating disorders like anorexia and bulimia are more damaging to your SHORT-TERM health. Constant vomitting can damage the esophagus, throat, and lead to tooth decay and gum disease from the stomach acid. Vomitting can also throw off your electrolyte balance and cause cardiac arrest. You go too long without food and you will develop other problems like brittle hair, yellow skin, damage to reproductive organs, and renal failure.

So although anorexics will frequently say that obesity is worse...it's not. People dont die of obesity in their 20s or 30s... they can live 30 years being obese without any major problems. Anorexics however do die young.

hello :]
personally, i believe from what Ive read being overweight is worse because being over weight is the leading cause of death in America and when your overweight its SO hard to drop the pounds and when you have an eating disorder its not good either but most people get therapy and recover and gain the weight back, so basically stay healthy and exercise and those problems will never effect you.
hope this helps.
:]
vote me for besttt answer!
thankss.

well - overeating IS considered an eating disorder.

but if you mean would i rather be annorexic, buhlemic, or fat - i'd go with fat. i've met some really happy fat people... but never a really happy person with an eating disorder. (i've had many friends in the hospital due to them... it's not a good time.)

IT'S HARD BECAUSE A MAJORITY OF THE TIME BEING OVERWEIGHT HAS TO DO WITH THE SAME WAY AN ANOREXIC THINKS. I SAY THE A IN THE SAME BALL PARK.THEY BOTH HAVE THE SAME LEVEL OF DANGERS AND SAME NUMBER OF DIFFICULTY TO OVERCOME.

Having an eating disorder is worse, bc it means there's something wrong with the way you view yourself.

I believe they go hand in hand, cant be over weight without a eating disorder, I have heard the thyroid theory but watch what those people pump down their throats,, junk food,

I think an eating disorder is probably worse.

both
