Do you think that answering questions on eating disorders encourages negative behaviours?

I have noticed that there seem to be a lot of questions asking about eating disorders in non-constructive manners - i.e. girls posting weights that are obviously dangerously low and then asking if they are 'normal'. I have had issues with my eating in the past, and understand how the negative reinforcement can work - you want people to tell you that you are underweight, you want the attention, but you don't want to get help. Personally, I won't be answering any questions like that and was wondering what other people felt - is it best to ignore questions that seem to be looking for this negative reinforcement?

i try tell them things that they might actually care about not that they're killing themselves cause that doesnt work!

like when a girl says if i dont eat for a week.....? i tell her that her body will just store fat

It's automatic in human nature unfortunately.

if you;ve been through it yourself then you know the signs and can resist reacting in such a way, for every one else, it is seen as helping.

It's not negative reinforcement, its positive, the person just never believes it.

I do actually worry about answering those types of questions, so generally tend to steer clear...I don't like answering questions that ask "do I look ok", "does he like me", "am I overweight", etc, etc....because its all subjective.

I do agree with you.

You can't cure an eating disorder by answering a question. But at least you can give them realistic feedback, and you never know it might help someone and start them (or keep them) on the path to recovery.

It irrates me when they say they can't talk to anyone about it, yet they can post it on here for hundreds of people to comment on it. Hhhmmmm makes you wonder doesn't it?

It worries me more when they are under weight and people say no your not you should lose more then tell them how to lose it.

i totally agree with you. Also there are a lot of people on here who will give really irresposible answers.
