Do I / did I have an eating disorder? |
I lost a lot of weight (about 100 pounds) mostly by eating half portions. Then I used to stress about my weight all the time and used to make myself throw up to keep the weight off. My doctor said that really isnt that uncommon and that I don't hav an eating disorder because my BMI is in the normal range even tho its at the low end. even so, a lot of my friends tease me and call me anorexic or tell me to eat some cake or a sandwich and stuff like that. I dont throw up anymore but i still stress and portion and weigh myself multiple times a day. was my doctor wrong? im also a guy if that changes things well, symptoms like these can lead to diseases like anorexia, and it doesn't really change things if you're male or female. if your friends keep doing that, they're only going to lead you to self-destruction. why are they even doing that if they're your friends? they should tell you to stop being so negative about your weight, and it's perfectly normal for a person to be at the size you're at right now. i'm actually underweight, but i don't have an eating disorder. my friends don't call me anorexic. If you have a psychological need to worry about your body image even when you logically know you're skinny enough, then you might have an eating disorder. Anorexia and Bulimia are just physical manifestations of these self-destructive thought patterns. An unrealistic body image is the underlying cause of eating disorders. Get treatment as soon as you can, it might not seem like it now but once you get into it, an eating disorder can ruin your life and even kill you. Making yourself throw up to lose weight is an eating disorder. I would get a new doctor. Makes no difference if your BMI is good or not. And yes, guys can have anorexia. I suggest you see someone who is an eating disorders expert. It's great that you lost weight, but now you seem obsessed. |
