Is my eating disorder making me tired?

I am in recovery but feel constantly drained of all energy. I have awful moods! Because I'm eating more shouldn't I be gaining energy not losing it??? Im confused. I feel really ill. My eating disorder was very much like anorexia and has been present for 4mnths. I do feel bad about eating but I don't want to die. I did have a relapse on monday but I've eaten OK today. What do you think is making me tired?

When I was starving myself I was lightheaded and dizzy. I collapsed a few times due to a very low blood sugar. I am now eating a normal amount and am no longer feeling lightheaded (which I liked as I wasn't in pain) Instead I am now mentally and physically EXHAUSTED! Does it even make sense?

Ok not to give a lecture but i just kinda want to give you an understanding of it.... here goes....

Your body needs 1200 calories just to function properly (certain amounts of calories go to different systems) when you deprive your body of food, it goes into starvation mode which is a defence mechanism and a totally different way of conserving energy. You say you've been like this for four months? then you're body has become adjusted to this way of eating...

Now that you're in recovery pressumably eating more (or at least near a normal level) so your body is trying to go back to a normal way of using energy. Your tired and having mood swings (trust me my mood swings are ridiculous! lol) because (once again i'm pressuming) you're still not eating the correct amount of food, so your energy levels are low....

Hopefully all of that made sense.....

It does take time, but the more you eat the more you will adjust and you're energy levels and mood swings will (hopefully!!) get better... My recovery is taking time and my energy and temperment are all over the place but i am slowly noticing a difference to the positive and that means slowly but surely i'm getting better. You can aswell you just have to stick with it.....

Good luck! x

(sorry for the lecture....:-P)

You're still in the process of recovering. After depriving yourself of nutrients, your body needs time to adjust to getting them back. Food is said to give you energy but you might need some more time for that to actually happen. Keep up the good work though. Even if you have a slip, don't give up! Keep eating healthy and I'm sure you'll start getting your energy back soon enough.

Lack of food. If you can get eating breakfast, lunch, dinner, and at least one snack every day then your energy should start making a comeback.

Absoultly this is making you tired. Both mentally and physically.

Look at it this way....FOOD is your bodies "fuel", like a car. If a car has low fuel it cannot preform well and then eventually it will run dry of it and will not preform at all. Mentally, you are battling what your body needs and what you think you dont want.

An eating disorder is something I have yet to understand but I can compare it to other "addictions" or diseases and that helps me to understand it better. At one point you ate food and you liked it, maybe even loved it, so maybe you need to find that again and enjoy your food. You must mentally prepare yourself for that, maybe start training youself little by little to eat small amounts all day and dont overwhelm yourself all in one meal. Take it easy and start to enjoy food again and enjoy yourself, mind, body and soul.

I sincerely wish you the best of luck in this trying times. :)
