I think my friend has an eating disorder, what do I do? |
She is 5' 7" and 100 pounds! I'm 2 inches shorter than her and i weigh 25 pounds more. She eats around me, but I don't know if it's a healthy amount, it's always less than me. She doesn't have curves, but I still think that is way too skinny. What should I do? Should I ask my friends what they think, and we could confront her? I don't know. Any suggestions? I know she's not bulimec, I went to overnight camp and she never went to the bathroom after we ate. First of all it is never good to just jump to conclusions. There are people who are skinny because of how they are. If you are really serious make it more private don't go and spread it try to confront her on your own. If she feels offended just tell her you care for her because you are her friend. If she does has an eating disorder and she admits tell her straight one, it's not the way to go, two you need to get counseling and help before it's to late. Tell her you will be there for her no matter what. But don't make any promises you cannot keep. May God Bless You!!!!!! Well, she could be that skinny (believe it or not, I'm taller and I weigh even less, and I only very recently got any curves at all) naturally or she could have an eating disorder. If she looks out of proportion (ie, her head looks too big for her body), her upper and lower arms are the same diameter, her hair is limp and dull, she always seems cold, or you don't ever see her eat or she seems to always spend a while in the bathroom right after she eats, she very likely does have an eating disorder. dont jump at anything yet, maybe thats her genetics. i used to be so small, but it was just my body. just try to pry a little deeper. see if theres anything bothering her. and constantly force food and snacks to be around when you hang out, or make little comments like "youre so small, youre lucky" usually a person with a eating disorder will say something like "are you kidding, no youre not serious" and they generally wont laugh and have a very serious tone and look disgusted. oh and another suggestion, dont tell anyone what you think unless youre positive. you have to think of the reprecussions this could have on her if you told people she did and she really didnt. good luck (: You need to do it one-to-one. If you bring in a bunch of people she will feel like you are ganging up on her. Just tell her that she is really important to you and you feel like she may be having a problem with losing weight. If after you two have talked about this you think that she may need some help talk to a parent or another adult that you trust. Good Luck :) wow thats really bad. she has the weight a 5"0 person should! you should tell her to seek help. and if she refuses you should get help for her. she will honestly thank you in the long run because eating disorders are no joke. my mom was anerexic when she was younger and had a stroke. her left side of her body was paralized(sp?) for monthes. she had to go to physical therapy. her left side still isnt the same. I would be nice if all it toke if and ur friends confront her but thats not reality. U can confront her with ur friends but also tell her parents . be prepared for her to get pissed at you and for one roller coster ride . she may need professional help so u have to tell her parents so she can get it. What do her parents look like? If one or both is tall and lean, then it could be genetic... or if she has a chronic illness (i.e., colitis, etc.) that could explain her weight. Have you ever seen or heard of her making herself vomit? or taking laxatives? If you stay concerned, talk to your mom about this... and see what she recommends. This site has a lot of useful links... Maybe she's naturally skinny, like me. I'm 14 5'3 and 90 lbs tell someone how you feel |
