My friend self-harms and is now on the verge of an eating disorder. How can I help her?

She confides in me a lot about this kind of thing. We sometimes have really deep conversations and she tells me about how she thinks about suicide every day and cutting herself makes these thoughts go away.
I just listen to her- get her to open up a bit more so she doesn't keep it bottled up and I don't really say much because I don't want to say something that'd make her not trust me. She once told me that she WANTS me to tell her off, but I really can't do it. I don't want to push her over the edge.
But I feel like I'm not doing anything to help her anymore. She seems to be spiralling more and more out of control and I think she's influenced by another one of her friends who does even.. worse things than she does.
She's told me that she thinks she's fat (she really isn't at all) and she's skipping meals and I think she's making herself sick. She often tries to give me her food in school and tries to asks for tips for how she can hide her food.
I really don't know what to say or do and, to be honest, her behaviour is affecting me as well. I really desperately want to help her but she's terrified of psychologists and she hates her parents.
Please, I need some advice. x Thank you.

I am exactly the same as her. Suicide often entered my mind, i hate my parents + psychologists but what kept me going was my brother Jared, he persuaded me out of it + got me out of my eating disorder, what he did was do whatever i liked with me every day until i became happy again.

Every dad he would help me bunk out of school, then do so so so much stuff with me, at the time, he was only 16 + i was only 13, but he took me to meet bands, to gigs, everything i wanted to do! Help her, make her life happy + then she won't feel the need to not eat.

I still kind of have the eating disorder but it only comes when my life goes through a down!

X

Be there for her!

It absolutely sounds like you have quite a handful to deal with, with this friend of yours, and I totally understand you wanting to help her because I myself was in a similar situation where my friend was addicted to oxycontin and also had an eating disorder. I know it's a hard thing to deal with, and the best thing you can do for her is be there to help and support her.

My suggestion to you if you are concerned that your friend may possibly have an eating disorder, I would recommend that you take a look at this site, http://www.eatingdisorder.com/eating-dis... and on there you will see a lot of information about different eating disorders, their symptoms and causes, treatment options that are available, and much more. I would look through the site and see if your friend has a lot of the symptoms of an eating disorder, and if so there is a toll-free helpline number on there which you can call on behalf of your friend... let them know what's going on with her/him and they will be able to help you.

Hope this is helpful.

It's nice you're so concerned about her but she really needs to speak to someone other than you. You need to be able to speak to someone too as it's a lot to be dealing with yourself. Could you speak to a teacher at school that you trust, you don't need to tell them the name of your friend - you could say it's someone you know outwith school and ask for some advice even. Also try get your friend to speak to someone because it sounds like things have got to the stage where she needs professional help. Even if you could encourage her to phone childline on 0800 1111 or the samaritans on 08457 909090 and speak to someone about things. You could also check out www.b-eat.co.uk which is the Eating Disorders Association website for info on eating disorders.

Your friend has a deep emotional pain from something that has affected her at an early age. Her self harm is due to the deep pain and emptiness that she is feeling. Your friend has turned against her own self due to the pain that she is in. There is a great report that can help your friend. I suggest you read it together. It scientifically shows that you can stop self harm cutting. It also shows the root cause of the pain that your friend is in. The first thing to do is tell her that you love her. It is a powerful medicine those words.
If she is suicidal http://suiciderateup.wordpress.com Read that site, it shows how the emotional pain leads to suicide.

and for Cutting http://spirithappy.wordpress.com
The 2 sites are helping suicidal depression and self harm without any medication
I feel the reports on those sites is the best thing you can do for her
