Eating disorder, or is everyone like this?

Well, over the past two years I've developed an obsession with food, eating, dieting, and hate hate HATING my body. I have a tendency to severely restrict my food intake, and I've thrown up after eating on occasion. I cannot seem to have a normal relationship with food, my eating habits are so extreme; fasting for a day or two at a time then bingeing for a day. I can't find a happy medium when it comes to eating. I'm starting to think I have a legitimate eating disorder except for one factor, my weight. I've been maintaining a solid 115 pounds at my height of 5' 4". Ew, I know. But what I'm wondering is, how can I have an eating disorder if I'm on the higher end of the healthy weight range? Please give thorough answers, how should I deal with this?

Thanks in advance.

it sounds like you have a disorder, also your wieght is really good for your hieght. my mom is about the same hieght and is 125 pounds and really wishes she could lose 10 pounds but she pretty skinny

I definitely talk to a trusted friend... you have an eating disorder... mostly, I'd recommend eating healthy portions and exercising... exercising with friends is always fun too.

You have Bulimia.

you probably have bulimia or an eating disorder not otherwise specified (EDNOS), neither of which have any diagnostic criteria relating to your weight. a person with either of these disorders could be underweight, at a normal weight, or overweight - it doesn't matter, what matters in the diagnosis is how you feel about yourself, your body and food. if you're interested in the diagnostic criteria for eating disorders, look at this website http://www.clevelandclinicmeded.com/medi...
regardless of what your weight is, an eating disorder affects you physically and emotionally. talk to your doctor about your problem and explain to him that you think you have an eating disorder. ask for a recommendation to a nutritionist and psychologist specializing in eating disorders, and then make an appointment with these people. if possible, also find a doctor specializing in eating disorders. a nutritionist will be able to help you establish a healthy meal plan and a psychologist will help you learn to deal with your eating disorder and the factors that led you to your eating disorder. you should also look into eating disorder support groups in your area. if you don't think that this will be enough, you should look into outpatient or inpatient centers for eating disorders. it takes a lot of strength to recover, but you can do it! best of luck with your recovery

Although your weight is "normal," you still have a few different symptoms of an eating disorder. You should not leave an eating disorder untreated, because the longer it is left untreated the worse it gets. These eating disorders not only effect your body physically, but mentally as well, and that is why it can be so difficult to break the eating disorder because it can literally control your body mentally.

There is a great informational site about eating disorders that I think you should take a look at, http://www.eatingdisorder.com/eating-dis... and on there you will find a lot of helpful and useful information about different eating disorders, their symptoms and causes, treatment options that are available, and more.

Also there is a toll-free helpline number on the site that you may want to call, and speak to a trained professional. They can answers any questions you want answered, and will help to point you in the right direction moving forward.

Basically, it all starts with willpower. While I don't go through
the same issue, I am 5'4 male and weigh only about 120, so I don't think
"ew" to that at all. I think your problem is mainly mental and not physical, so just know that you should not care about your appearance or what people think, cliche as that may sound, just do the best you can and take care of your body. You are confusing/hurting your metabolism, and the reason you are throwing up is because your body has a hard time processing food when you starve it for days and days. The way you eat can cause severe damage to your body. But to answer your question, I would say if you had a disorder, it would be bulimia. Let me know if this doesn't answer your question...
