Research paper on eating disorders. specifically, anorexia. any facts?

I'm doing a research paper on anorexia. know anything?
thanks in advance :]

- Anorexia is a psychological disorder. A DISEASE, not a lifestyle or a choice.
- Young girls are more afraid of becoming fat than they are of nuclear war, cancer, or losing their parents.
- Girls develop eating and self-image problems before drug or alcohol problems; there are drug and alcohol programs in almost every school, but no eating disorder programs.
- 90% of people affected with eating disorders are women.
- Eating disorders usually start in the teens but may begin as early as age 8. In some cases, even earlier.
- Anorexia causes the following health problems, along with many others: Stomach problems, heart problems, irregular periods or no periods, fine hair all over the body including the face, dry and scaly skin, frequent dizziness and light headedness, fatigue, electrolyte imbalance, anemia, dehydration, size reduction of internal organs, low pulse, kidney troubles/failure, osteoporosis.
- Behavioral signs: Severely restricting food intake or fasting, ritualistic food behaviors such as counting bites, cutting food into tiny bites, playing with their food on the plate or preparing food for others and refusing to eat it, excessive exercising to lose weight, extreme fear of becoming fat, dressing in baggy or layered clothing to hide weight loss, may binge, use laxatives, diuretics or enemas to get rid of the food they eat, mood swings, feeling of inadequacy about his/her abilities, feelings of self-worth determined by what is or isn't eaten
- The cause of anorexia is undetermined but may be related to perfectionnism and the pressure from society.
- Rich and successful people or people who have parents that are rich and successful have anorexia more commonly than poorer people
- 15% of people who have anorexia will die from the disease within 20 years.
- About every 4 in 10 people who have deep seated anorexia and suffer from this illness will actually make a full recovery and others do improve, 3 out of 10 will however continue to suffer from major long term illness.
- 1 in every 100 girls has anorexia nervosa.
- Doctors will diagnose a person with Anorexia after they have lost 15% or more of their natural body weight.
- There are two categories of anorexics: the "restructure" group: they severely restrict their food intake and the "bulimic" group who restrict their food intake, but suffer from bouts of the binge-eating and purging cycles.

well it's more frequent in girls but the number of guys diagnosed have been increasing more and more in the past few years.
the most common age is 13-20.
if you have anorexia when you're younger it can affect your growth rate.
(you may not grow)
you'll get thin hair, and other effects depending on how severe it is.
use google for other statistics.
anorexic people do not "barf" to lose weight.
that would be belemia...

It's not a choice - it's a disease, no matter what people say.
It's often confused with bulimia.
People seem to think that males are immune, but 10 % of those with this condition are male. It's probably obvious, though unfair, but 80 % are homosexual.
The average age for someone to have this is sixteen.

Try this webpage it has a lot of information about eating disorders.

it is a very serious problem and is an actual disease that needs to be diagnosed. our society today makes teenage girls more prone to things like this because of the media portrays skinny girls as the ideal image. it is a mental disorder and it is very sad

I was anorexic as a kid all the way up to age 21.I got no doctors help but I finally grew out of it. I'm 6"-2' and I weighed 123 when I was 16 I'm 41 now and I weigh 174 and I'm still thin

it makes you lose teeth and erodes your esophagus... the ph level of stomach contents is about 2...thats rediculously acidic

anorexic people barf and think of themselves as fat.

my friend died from her eating disorder, i can tell you about it if you want:
