Why do people who've recovered from eating disorders have bad circulation? |
is it to do with a weakened heart muscle or something? intelligent answers only please. I seen a crazy diabetes dr once (really a nut - I left in tears) who said I am anorexic because my blood contained keetones and low potassium (something common in people with anorexia but also caused by v high blood sugar in people with diabetes). Potassium is absolutely crutial in regulating heart beat and long term lack of potassium could weaken the heart - I'm guessing that could be a possibility. I'm bulimic, currently kind of in remission but I wasn't aware of this...as you say, it probably has got something to do with the weakening of the heart muscles due to lack of nutrients, and electrolight embalance..which is the embalance of salts and chemicals in our blood do to purging etc. An eating disorder like vitamin C deficiency may rupture the thin capillary walls, resulting in bleeding under the surface of the skin and causing swelling and bruising. This can lead in some cases to tumours of the capillary. my sister has been really badly anorexic for about 10 years now. I didn't know she would be susceptible to bad circulation. I do know that her organs and some bodily functions have partially if not fully shut down so maybe it could be to do with the heart as well. She, of course, has an extremely low level (if any) of fat so she gets cold very easily and does not eat the food needed to fuel the body to heat itself up. So it might be that instead/as well. |
