i'm doing a report and need some facts thnx Check out these links for good info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/anorexia_ne... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/bulemia... Good luck. There is so much info out there, but maybe this start will help. http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/eatingd... http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/eatingd... Eating disorders are psychological problems in which the person has unusual eating habits. There are two major eating disorders. They can be very dangerous if not treated. People with ANOREXIA NERVOSA refuse to maintain a healthy weight, often losing 20 percent of their body weight. Usually they do this by reducing the amount of food they eat, but they may also take laxatives or vomit. Women with anorexia nervosa stop having menstrual periods. Despite being very thin, they still believe that they are fat. In BULIMIA NERVOSA, the person binge eats 鈥?eats large amounts of food (usually high in calories) over a short period of time, feels upset about it and then makes herself (or himself) vomit to avoid gaining weight. This pattern is often referred to as 鈥渂inging and purging.鈥?Individuals with bulimia may also take laxatives or diuretics (water pills) in an attempt to lose weight. People with bulimia often don鈥檛 lose large amounts of weight. Excessive exercise is common in both of these eating disorders. Are you asking about a certain disorder or in general? |
