How can i help my 30yr old partner get over anorexia...has any1 any experience with male eating disorders? |
mealtimes are turning into battletimes and hes seriously underweight..im worried hes going to need hospitalisation if he doesnt start to put weight on soon..but nagging him certainly doesnt help him My brother also had male anorexia/muscle dysmorphia. He died at age 29 of heart failure due to complications however he was very muscular/low body fat and took way too many diuretics and/laxatives. Few people recognize male anorexia due to the fact that it is common in more females than males. Men also disguise a lot of their symptoms by stating they "work out a lot" I was also diagnosed (anorexia/bulimia) at the age of 18 and have fought an uphill battle ever since. I have been in recovery since I was 26 and have found a healthier way to live. I and the Dr's do not think it ever goes away you just learn to handle it better and realize it IS psychological. Be ready HE WILL deny it and perhaps get agitated. I will think of you and him and I pray he gets the help he needs. Its a tough battle but one worth fighting to keep your life. Prayers and peace ~i~ You may want to look over these sites. The second link is a great resource for signs of the disorder. The third one is one mans story with the disorder. Source(s): http://www.anonymousone.com/faq201.htm... http://www.makaylashealingplace.dnswh.co... http://www.gurze.com/client/client_pages... male eating disorders is NO DIFFERENT from female disorders. So come off it. Well, the reason he's paranoid about gaining weight is that gay men are fanatical about being thin & slim - to the point of madness. He's afraid of becoming overweight & losing his appeal & charms to other guys. Having you as his boyfriend doesn't relax his fears not one bit. You can blame the gay subculture & mindset & attitude about body weight & figures for his eating disorder. In one way - I can't blame him - in that I know it's so damn EASY to gain weight - so bloody hard to lose it !!!!! and the older one gets - the easier it gets to put on fat. Part of me sympathizes with him. Don't nag him - but try to speak nicely to him sometimes and tell him how much you would love to see him a bit more juicy & full-bodied - tell him how much it turns you on to see a bit more flesh on him. Beyond that - you can only leave it to him. Perhaps someday he'll come around & get the hint. However, when you met him - you KNEW DAMN WELL - that he was thin & anorexic - no different than most gay guys. so you can't say he tricked you -or you just didn't realize - YOU SAW THE MERCHANDISE - & YOU ACCEPTED IT " as is" . So next time you fall in love - choose a guy with more meat on him to begin with - who eats closer to how you eat. Wisen up!!!!!!! So are we clear on this now.?????? Hello, I am making a documentary feature film about male eating disorders. I am female and suffered from anorexia and bulimia for most of my life and have now come through it. If you can get him to see a Psychiatrist who specialises in the subject that would be the first step. I would try to set a good example in the way you behave around food and as regards body image. Don't nag. Don't use other peoples or celebrities bodies as examples of what he should be aiming to look like. Try to love him for who he is. It is a slow process. If you or your boyfriend or anyone with similar problems on this board would be willing to take part in my documentary please get in touch. alexmcguinness9@gmail.com I agree with what has already been written. He really needs to get professional help but he will probably deny there is a problem in the first place. Nagging him is just going to make the situation worse so if at all possible try to stop yourself doing this, also it might be an idea to find a support group for you as things might get problematical. Take care of both of you and please talk to the professionals who deal with eating disorders all I can do is suggest they are the road to recovery. This is a very good blog, a beginner鈥檚 guide to abnormal psychology. Short, clear and simple; and you can even post your question and contact the author regarding particular subject you are interested in http://sensitive-psychoworld.blogspot.co... u just consult unani docter or naterupaty |
