Eating disorder destroyed my metabolism, any suggestions on how to boost it? |
I am a recovered anorexic/bulimic. Before my ordeal I weighed a steady 145lbs, within 9 months I was down to 85lbs, and my weight has only continued to rise since "recovery", which began about 14 months ago. So this weight fluctuation happened very quickly, and the last time I checked (1 year ago), I weighed 140lbs, and have increased in size quite a bit since that weigh-in. Obviously, being a recovered ED patient, this causes me a lot of distress/discomfort. So I bought a gym membership. and I am having trouble building my muscles back up since they atrophied with my weight loss, and I have never really come close to the strength they used to be. I need to know some easy ways to raise my metabolism so I can drop a little weight while my muscles are so weak. I don't want to push myself too hard or become obsessive about going to the gym. Pointers, anyone? Sorry this was so long... The best thing to do is to visit a registered dietitian who can measure your metabolism and design a custom menu plan for you. If you can't afford the $100-$200 for a few sessions, try eating a meal plan of lots of lean protein. Purchase a designer whey power and blend with milk and a bit of peanut butter to have between meals. Have a half a shake before bed so your body can use the protein to build and repair muscle. You'll add about 60 calories burned per day (metabolism) for every pound of muscle you gain. Try free weights too because your body will build more muscle "learning" to balance the weight. I've recommended a great book below in the link. (It's spiral bound and easy to use/follow in the gym). Source(s): http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/asin/0...
