Eating disorder question? |
Suppose a person typical diet consist of a cup of coffee for breakfast, nothing for lunch and normal serving of home cooked meals for dinner. Then would binge on healthy food when at night. Calories intake is less then 1200. But weight stills remains at normal to borderline underweight range. Would you consider the person as having eating disorder? If it is, what kind of eating disorder is it? By what you write, it is hard to say if it is an eating disorder. What is the reason that you don't eat breakfast and lunch? Is it intentional or do you just not have time? In order to evaluate the presence of an eating disorder, the feelings about food, eating and body image must be examined. At the very least, this is an unhealthy way of eating and the calories are probably not enough to maintain healthy body functions. What I would worry about are the vitamins and minerals that you are consuming in your diet, especially your potassium level. The body can not tolerate wide shifts in potassium, and low potassium can be fatal. You should consider visiting a dietician or your physician to determine the correct amount of calories you need to consume. If this is some kind of eating disorder, it would be considered a form of the binge-eating type of anorexia nervosa. Source(s): Nurse I dont' think so. That sounds okay although nothing for lunch seems extreme. Maybe it seems better since the person is binging on healthy food at night. I think 1200 per day is on the lower end of "normal" anyways. I would contact a dietican ASAP IT'S NOT A EATING DOSORDER. JUST THE MUNCHIES. THE BODY CAN DIGEST FOOD WHILE IT'S ASLEEP AND SINCE IT'S NOT WORKING IN A "FOUR-WHEEL MOTION" IT'S NOT BURNING ENERGY THEREFORE NO WEIGHT IS BEING GAINED OR LOSS. MYSELF The real problem is the calories...you need AT LEAST 1200 just to function..this person needs to figure out their BMR and RMR to see how many calories their body needs just to thrive, breathe, swallow, blink and the list goes on. You should only subtract 500 from that amount to lose weight and then refigure once you have lost to see how many you need to maintain. I'm not sure of this eating problem you explained. I mean, the issue with no breakfast is that this person is not getting their energy they need in the morning to function at full par till lunch..then they're having no lunch which is crazy! I don't know how they are making it through the day. Now dinner sounds ok with the normal servings but the binging again at nite is unhealthy. The food choices apparently are healthy as you say , but I think they are binging late because of the lack of food all day. They are not losing weight even with the reduction of calories because they are not eating enough. So the body is in starvation mode and holding onto every last ounce in case they don't eat again. Seems like a mix between anorexia and bulemia except they aren't purging...or are they?? This person needs to talk to a dietician to get them back to being healthy again. |
