Periods after eating disorder? |
I am recovering from an eating disorder and am currently at a healthy 8st 9Ibs however my periods have still not returned. Does anyone know how long it takes for your body to return to normal? I have not had a period for 6months and whilst going through my lowest weight range i was on the pill so never noticed i was not menstrating It can vary. Mine took almost a year to come back. Almost 2 years later and I still have to eat more than what my meal plan dictates (like the week before) or I'll miss one. Also, if you were on the pill before and now you're not, that's screwed up your chemical balance too... on top of the ED. Talk to your nutritionist. They can change your meal plan. You might be at a decent weight, but you might not have recovered enough fat stores yet. I know it's tough, just keep at it! when your body fat percent goes up to normal, those body functions will return... it will return when you are on the 11's to the 15's (that's percentage)... the percentage they recommedn for women are 13-16% body fat. It's good you recovered!!! It's great that you have recovered! I went on a diet last summer and I thought it was no big deal, but now I havn't had my period in 9 months. Sorry, I couldn't help..I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone :) A huge congratulations for your recovery! Stick with it and dont rip into yourself too much if you have a bad day & fall of the waggon - it happens to everyone, thats why its called recovery... Mine took 8 months to fully come back. It may take some time to get back to normal. Remember your body has been through a lot and needs to start regulating itself. Go to your doctor if it still hasn't come in the next 4-6 months or so... A huge congratulations on your recovery!!! Well done! :-) There's no telling when it will come back. But, as long as you have returned to healthy eating habits your period WILL come back soon. I recovered from an eating disorder too and I had lost my period for about a year. So no worries, it will come back. If you are super concerned about it, try going to a doctor about it. Experience |
