Could antidepressives solve an eating disorder? the disorder does have a psychological basis..?

i don't have serious weight prblems but i have been anorexic sth like a year ago, then i gained some weight, then i started eating abnormally small quantities of food and periodically really really large amounts of food.. the balance has been ruined; however i want to lose some of the weight; the problem is related to a depression or something of sorts so i was thinking i could focus on that; i've been prescriped last year a mild anti depressant but i didn't take it more than a day or two because it had negative effects immediately.... i'm only looking for opinions at this point

You really need to stabilise! If you are prescribed a medication you can't possibly take it for a day or two here and there, you MUST take it as the doctor prescribed. Once your depression is stabilised, say in 3 months, you will notice you are eating less anyway. Depression means you are low on serontonin and that's why you crave carbs, they are great sources of serontonin. Take the medication, get stabilised and THEN worry about your weight.
i've never seen antidepressants to have good effects! please be careful
Aparently, prozac was 'shown to be useful in depression, OCD, panic anxiety, eating disorders, PMS, substance abuse, ADD, and a number of other conditions.'

A wonderful drug, one might say... The 'only' problem being hell lot of side effects and the fact that it takes quite a few weeks for it to kick in.

My advice to you would be to try some counceling, psychotherapy or other 'talking therapies' in order to get to the root of your problems (you mentioned the psychological basis).
Ask your GP about the help available to you

Good luck

you really need to be on an antidepressant. anorexia really is a symptom of depression, not just a disease all its one. i take cymbalta which is weight nuetral and also gets your serontonin up, so you wont get fat from taking it. its okay to be thin, but not if its controlling your life. you need to learn new ways to loose weight like exercise and a balanced diet. and you deserve to feel better from the depression you're in. a therapist can also help with your intrusive thoughts and disordered thinking patterns so you feel okay about yourself.
