Do i have an eating disorder? |
i am 5'5" and weigh 115 lbs. i have been restricting for a while now, eating only about 500 calories a day. i exercise a lot, and feel food controls me. every night i lay in bed just thinking about how bad a feel, or guilty if i went over my 500 limit. i kinda of want to reach out to my friends for help, but it seems they dont care to notice. what is wrong with mee!! The main characteristic of an eating disorder is an intense fear of getting fat and doing behaviors to prevent the weight gain or compensate for eating. You are eating only 500 calories a day, which is likely around 1/3 of what you need in a day if you are sedentary. So, the answer to your question is yes, you have an eating disorder because you are allowing your fear of getting fat to control your life and my guess is you are planning your whole day around your meals and what you can and cannot eat. A word of caution, lowering your calories that significantly can lead to lots of health problems and your body's immediate reaction will be to actually slow down your metabolism because it will think you are starving. If you don't feel like you can talk to your friends, talk to a school counselor or a trusted adult relative. You need to see a clinician that specializes in eating disorders. Good luck-I know it will be difficult, but it sounds like you know you need help. Ok, I am 14 years old, 5'2" and i weigh 95 pounds. I eat all of the time. It makes my metabolism get faster. If you restrict your food intake it slows down your metabolism and makes you gain weight whenever you do eat. I am not sure if you have an eating disorder, (you probably do). But you need to keep in mind that you are making yourself fat. Whenever you do eat, instead of spending the energy right away, as it would normally, your body isnt sure when you will eat again so it will store any extra food for later use. My advice is to eat when you're hungry, what you are truly hungry for and not worry about it.
