Do I have an eating disorder if I...? |
Do I have an eating disorder if I undereat or don't eat at all, during school lunch and when I overeat, instead of barfing, I drink pepto bismol instead? I'm reposting my question hoping I'll get more positive feedback now that I've added additional details. I'm 5'3'' and 135 lbs. I'm not trying to lose weight- though I wouldn't mind if I shedded 10 lbs...However losing weight is too much work on my part that I'm not willing to put so much effort in. Besides I got P.E. for that, which is bad enough. The only time I undereat or don't eat anything is during school lunch because I have a fear of large crowds and I'm a workaholic when there's school work to be done. Besides, cafeteria food sucks @$$. I overindulge sometimes after school because I didn't have anything for lunch and I'm too lazy to pack my own lunch. I DON'T PURGE- I cannot emphasize that enough! I'm not one to put my face inches over where people's @$$ has been on from time and time again.... and that's it... :P The only part of your eating habits that leads me to believe you may possibly have an eating disorder is your quick mentioning of "drinking pepto bismol instead of binging." An eating disorder has more to do with intentions than what you are actually putting (or not putting) into your body. If you don't eat at school because there's nothing good to eat but you eat normally otherwise, you probably don't have an eating disorder. From how you described your fear of crowds and workaholic tendencies, it sounds to me like you might have some form of an anxiety disorder. Then again, I'm not a psychiatrist (yet), so I could be wrong. Oh, but I would like to mention again the whole pepto bismol issue. Why do you take the stuff? If you are taking it to get rid of the food you just injested so that you don't gain weight, this is a sign of an eating disorder. If you take it because your stomach feels upset because you sometimes overeat, this is normal. Hope that helps... Source(s): 3 years as a psych major, lots of reading. No, from your description it sounds like you are not currently suffering from an eating disorder. no i dont think you have a eating disorder but i think you should eat lunch because you said you eat alot when you get home and thats not good to eat alot in just one meal....if you dont like the food there bring your own food. I don't think you do. you sound like you are a good weight. but you should try to eat something at lunch, I mean throw an apple in your bag before school and eat that. then that way you wont eat to much when you get home from school. From that extra info, it does not sound like you have an eating disorder. I don't eat at lunch either since i hate eating in front of crowds, I don't like cold food, and the last time I ate school lunch 5 years ago I got food poisoning. You're okay if you eat a hearty breakfast and dinner. And you said you're not obsessed about losing weight so you're fine. The only thing that sticks out is drinking the pepto bismol, which doesn't sound too healthy. If you overeat every now and then, don't worry. Jut try working it off with 10 minutes on the treadmill. Heya, I posted this on your other question, but I will repost it here just in case you don't check the other, NO NO NO, you do not have an eating disorder if you do not think your fat and need to lose weight. Eating disorders are mental, even though the action of having one is physical. You are on the other hand obviously concerned about it, your a smart girl because skipping meals is unheatlhy and dangerous. If you'd like to read some information I put together on a website, here's a great one http://www.myeatingdisorder.co... I am 22 and a recovering bulimic (20 months-woohoo!). Anorexia is skipping meals with the intention of losing weight, not just because you have other things to do. Try packing some fruit in your backpack to snack on while studying during lunch, or some mixed nuts. A protein bar, something. If you have any questions please email me and let me know, I have a lot of information and am currently working in an apprentiship program to councel girls who struggle with eating disorders. Hope this helps, Good luck *HUGS* Toni Lynne I remember how crumby the cafeteria food was, I dont blame you for not eating, but try to find some of your own snacks to carry in your bag and eat during lunch, this will also increase your metabolism which will help you be able to drop a couple pounds as well... |
