Could my friend have an eating disorder??

shes 14 and like 5'1 and 150 lb were almost the same size but anyways shes always saying sshes fat and tries all these diets but cant sick to one she tried eating salt strait because she thought it woud make her puke so shed ultimatley lose weight but i made her stop wat can she do shewants to lose weigh tbut some times she limits herself to less than 500 aloris a day and is aways talking and thinkng aboout how gross she sayd she looks

First and foremost realize that she doesn't have an eating disorder if what your saying is true. What she has is self esteem issues because she is a little bit overweight. Eating salt will only dehydrate you and only SOMETIMES limiting your caloric intake will actually make you gain weight because your body will go into "starvation mode" and store all food that you take in as fat. Your friend however seems to have the mind set-up of someone that could really develop an eating disorder. Tell her she's pretty and that if she really wants to lose weight plan it as a long term goal for HERSELF not so she can be popular, have a boyfriend etc. and most importantly tell her to talk to her parents or a school nurse or doctor to help her plan her diet and exercise regimen.
The best advice I could give you is to just simply talk to her. Also I would say ask other friends about her to see if she just acts like that around you. If you are really concerned you may want to talk to family members. She may not open up to you but may open up to a family member. Most people with a eating disorder deny it.
I'm sorry to hear that! Eating Disorders are a very serious condition!!!! Tell her that she is pretty! Help her boost her image! Tell her she's beautiful in her own way! If she wants to lose weight book an appt with a doctor, they could give her a list of things to do! Go to the gym with her for like an hour! Good Luck!!!
Well, no offence but your friend is over weight.BUT Thats no way to try to lose weight, and throwing up doesnt make you lose weight. A healthy way to lose weight is to excercise and eat right. Not eating will only make you FATTER in the long run. And, let her see this page. It would be eye-opening.
Wow, that's not a very cool situation. Well, you could definitely help a lot by complimenting her and giving her a little extra attention. You'd be suprised what it can do. She probably has some self esteem issues, so try to boost her up as much as you can, but don't make her overconfident. If none of this works, then I'd suggest talking to a counselor about her prob. Good LUck!!
She is overweight and looking for a quick fix. All the things you mentioned are unhealthy. She could swing the other way and become anorexic and/ or bulimic. You might need to seek adult intervention if this keeps up. Good luck!
