How does celexa help with an eating disorder?

Celexa is used for depression but I recently found out it is also used to treat eating disorders: anorexia nervosa and bulimia nervosa. I was wondering how it does this. Does it make you want to eat more? Are you so high you don't care if your thin or not? Are you so tired it takes to much energy to be anorexic? What are the side effects? PLease anyone with any answers. Thanks

Everyone responds to antidepressants differently. Some people have a lack of appetite. Some people gain weight.
They prescribe Celexa and other SSRIs for eating disorders to address any anxiety or depression that may also occur with anorexia or bulimia. The medication won't make you high. There is a lot of anxiety and depression with eating disorders.
Depression: Thoughts that a person is fat. Low self esteem.
Anxiety: Obsessive thoughts about weight and food. Anxiety about weight gain, not being in a place where they can purge, etc

The side effects differ for everyone. Some people get tired, but this side effect usually goes away after awhile. The link below is all about Celexa and the side effects.

For eating disorders, Celexa works best in conjunction with therapy and support. Source(s): http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/drugi...
IT IS SSI INHIBITOR MAY BE INHIBITING SATITARY CENTRE, OR PERSON WITH ANOREXIA HAVE SOME UNDERLYING DEPRESSION, NOT VERY SURE
Many antidepressants are also used to treat eating disorders. Serotonin has been indicated in both types of problems, so the same types of medications (SSRIs, which Celexa is) may be benefitial to different problems. Also, most people w/ eating disorders are also depressed, so the drugs treat these co-morbid symptoms. Side effects may include nausea, dry mouth, drowsiness, insomnia, increased sweating, tremor, diarrhea, and problems with ejaculation.
