I am in recovery for an eating disorder. How do i cope with work stress without using food? |
I have struggle with a food addiction in the form of binge eating and bulemia for years. i attend a twelve step program and an out patient program. I work f/t b/c i like what i do and need the income right now. it is causing me a lot of stress and i feel as though i am white knuckling my abstinence at work. any advice? Well I say take to time to wind down when you get home relax or make quite time for yourself. If you feel you need to eat try to chew sugar free gum . Start working out. It's a great way to releave stress. Start light and easy and slowly build up you workouts. I have a very stressful job and can feel the stress building up if I miss a few workouts. Come home and have a low calorie dinner, then brush your teeth really well and take a nice bath. Watch a movie- no snacking ( because you already brushed your teeth) What do you like? Long baths? TV? Reading? Drawing? Find things inexpensive that can take your mind off situations. Chewing gum can even give you something to do other than eat. Hope everything goes well, Alika613 find out what your afraid of thats causing the stress pray to Your higher power ask for faith call your support group or sponsor make a gratitude list read it instaed of eating pray do a 4th step and find the root cause of your stress why your not giving it to your higher power to deal with. call someone that you are in treatment with when you feel this way. definitely talk about it at meetings, there is probably someone there who can relate and may have a suggestion of what they do or have done in the past Check out (http://www.reducingstress.net/ )there is a lot of great content and information on the subject there.
