Anyone ever been inpatient for an eating disorder? |
I was just curious if anyone had ever been inpatient for an eating disorder. IF so, what was it like? Did it help? I've been suffering for a long time, and they want me going to inpatient. Thanks. Hi there, I've been hospitalized in regards to eating issues, and because of my own stubbornness have never stayed IP for longer than 8 days. But, the times when I did stay for a little longer, it was helpful. Research has shown that the highest rate of recovery from IP comes from when patients stay for 6-12 months. I could easily see this to be true! Think of how long we our brains have been patterned to think incorrectly, so taking 6-12 months to reformat patterns and eating habits is minimal. I say go for it, IF YOU WANT IT. Don't do it because others want you to!!! Take advantage of this opportunity if you are ready and willing! Good luck to you hon. Fight for your life! Source(s): Eating disorder sufferer for 14 years. hi, i personally have not been an inpatient, but I was a student nurse on a placement in a clinic with inpatients with anorexia nervosa. If you are WILLING to help yourself, you will find the programs to be helpful. YOU have to make an effort, no one else can do it for you! Noone can force you to eat....you have to overcome your fear and do it.....the staff are there to help you...but you have to be open to the experience, listen to the counsellors, and talk to the other inpatients...they are all there to help! if you are NOT willing to help yourself, then I found that those inpatients were the ones that suffered, and frankly...it was a waste of their time, and a waste of the resources in the clinic! IF YOU WANT TO GET THROUGH THIS.....you and only you can do it.........and being an inpatient can certainily help with this! Goodluck.... |
