Is it trendy to have an eating disorder? |
I was going through the questions and there are a million people asking about fast ways to get skinnier without exercising..there are 10 year olds that "HAVE TO LOSE WEIGHT". Is it just me, or there's a problem somewhere? I think that to a certain extent an eating disorder is trendy even if you are 10 years old. Unfortunately we are bombard with images every day of woman who are the so called norm and that if your young then all you want is to look like these people, reality is, alot of the photographs are altered the woman who are in the realms of being super models, actress are not perfect and require an airbrush. Everyone of us are different and trying to look like Madonna or your favourite celebrity is not possible. I grew up in the era of Marlyn Monroe a woman with a woman's figure which in today's world is called over weight. Why should we be pressured into looking like clothes horses because as we age we change anyway. Let children be children and turn into adults in the later on or better still allow us to have figures. Being thin can look awful having curves is more attractive be proud to look sexy and curvy not ashamed that you do not look like every one else. It should never be "trendy" to harm your body in any way at all. If you want to loose weight do it the old fashioned way....exercise and eat right. it is a problem in america. especially when people are insecure now a days... i mean even i would really like to lose a few pounds fast. mostly because were all lazy so we don't actually want to work to lose weight haha i had an eating disorder for about five years and i have to admit i started being concious of my weight when i was about ten. it's completely stupid as i was a stick. we are brainwashed into believing that we must look a certain way to be considered beautiful, it's really bad. We are brainwashed to believe that skinnier is better, ritcher, prettier, luckier, more successful..and we act accordingly..so, yes, there is a really big problem out there and what's worse, we are creating it by agreeing with it. Ugh, eating disorders are painfully trendy, no pun intended. Go on Livejournal.com and you'll see hundreds of communities of girls anywhere from 9-29 discussing their bulimia and anorexia tips. It is the most disturbing thing I've ever seen. While there are individuals who legitimately have a chemical imbalance that is charachterisitc of people suggering from an eating disorder, there are many young women looking up to boney celebrities for "thinspiration" and jumping on the finger-down-your-throat bandwagon. |
