Should I tell them about my eating disorder? |
When I first started out modeling, I was very self concious, and developed an eating disorder. Now, after numerous therapy sessions, I've become healthy and confident. My old modeling agency where I first began, wants me to speak at their graduation. They don't know about my eating disorder though. Should I tell them I had an eating disorder and let them know if it's right that I should still talk to the graduating class? P.S. I really want to talk about my eating disorder, to make sure the girls (and guys!) know where to go for help if they were ever in my situation. Would it be too bad if I just got up and started talking about my eating disorder without telling them beforehand? Ever potential model should know about the risks of any eating disorder. If you ask their permission to talk about it it's almost a given they'll say know. The modeling industry, like the ballet industry, basically encourages eating disorders. Will you need to have good relations with this agency in the future? Cause springing it on them without warning will probably kill your relationship with the agency. But if you don't need them, I think you should bring it up without warning them first, cause I think that's the right thing to do. However, do think about whether it's an appropriate forum for to bring up the topic. Graduation is supposed to be a celebration, and eating disorders are a pretty somber topic. I don't think I'd want someone to talk about them at my graduation. It depends what sorts of things have been spoken about at these things in the past, but be careful not to ruin the occasion for the graduation class. I've never been to a modeling graduation, so I don't know that it's not an appropriate topic, it's just something to think about is all. Talk to them first. if u really want to talk about it, then talk to the people in charge and let them kno ur point. but, i wouldn't recommend not telling them, b/c 1. it might cause problems and 2. they're probably going to ask to see ur speech b4 u give it. YES!!!!!! you might just help a model in the same situation and now they know how to find help or to cope,good job god will thank you. i would it helps the people in your field of work know that its out there and that the temptation will be there but they should just not do it ignorance is the worst educate them on what they need to know That would be an awesome thing to share at the graduation!!! Hopefully, they would be in support of that - I would ask them beforehand. id surprise them... eating disorders are an important issues but you have to understand that if the person doesnt want to change... you cant change them i changed myself i wanted to i think you should just surprise during the speach and just talk about it and see what happens,.... whats the worst that can happen? theyll fire you? you dont work for them anymore just go for it dont tel them bc they might not let you actually do the speach |
