I think i am recovering from my eating disorder....what are the signs of recovery from anorexia?

I don't know from personal experience, but I have heard that if you are able to look in the mirror and see your actual reflection instead of the morphed image you could be on the road to recovery. Also when you are actually able to eat and gain weight. Either way, shouldn't you see a therpaist?
Ask friends you trust what you look like. If their description matches yours, then you are already there.
Good for you!!

You will probably be less concerned about gaining weight by just looking at food and you will be actually enjoying eating instead of feeling guilty.

I had anorexia a few years ago and I had serious issues to start eating "normally", until I realized that the best way to stay thin was eating, but just the right types of food. Eating junk food and binging will never keep you thin. But, come on, if you had the discipline to stay on a no-food diet you can survive on a healthy food diet.

When I started my recovery I did gain weight. That is scientific fact and it is due to the fact that your body is not used to have those amounts of food. It learned to survive on a very slow metabolism so you could stay alive. So when you start eating more, your body will think "wow I am getting nutrients and things that I need, and who knows when I'll be getting them again, so I better store them". So, your body will store these nutrients as fat. But don't freak out. You have to show your body that it was not a one day thing. That you are going to give it what it needs everyday. Then your metabolism will stabilize and it will speed up.

So, try to eat right. Do not skip breakfast, have lots of fiber, veggies & fruits during the day. Try to avoid as much as possible refined flours, saturated fats & refined sugars (seriously, everything has them and they are really bad for you). Eat whole grains and nuts.

Do cardio exercises 3 times a week and do strength training 3 times a week too, so you can regain muscle. When I started my recovery, my arms and legs where massless, seriously. Now I have a strong lean body:)

This is my sample menu for a day:

8:00 am 1 cup of fiber max cereal w/ 1tbs of sliced almonds and fat free milk. Sometimes I put apple or strawberries there. I take my one a day vitamin supplement, one omega-3 gelcap and one caltrate capsule too.

11:00 am One apple

12:30 Lunch. ! cup of whole grain brown rice topped with steamed veggies and tofu/chicken of fish seasoned with curry. One apple or grapes.

3:30 An orange or an apple

6:00 Dinner. I have a salad (with nuts on it, lots of them) without dressing or I just squeeze a lime on it. And I have like 4 oz of fish or chicken. Just steamed or grilled with steamed/sauted veggies.

If I get hungry later on I have more apples, grapes or any type of fruit around. If during the day I crave for something sweet I have some fruit, if I crave for something crunchy I have baby carrots, celery of jicama. I drink tons of water and decaffeinated tea during the day.
I avoid as much as I can refined sugar, butter, refined flour, cheese, cream, deep fried things, bacon, luncheon meats, or anything that is high in sugars or fats.

I think the way in which I am handling my diet is great. Some people think I still have an eating disorder because I am very, very strict with my diet. But, I am eating the right amounts of food and only the healthy ones. So, I think I just changed my non-eating habits to healthy-eating ones. I still have my body image obsession, but I proved to myself that being thin and sick is not beautiful. Being thin and strong due to your healthy life style is the best thing that you can do for yourself and for the people that you love.
I just had a physical exam and it went great. My blood works were perfect, my heart is doing great. I am 5'2'' and my weight is 104 lbs. I have 18.8 % BMI. So, I want everybody to know that you can change and be healthier and happier by eating right:)

Stay strong and enjoy food, because it is delicious:)
