Am I on the verge of an eating disorder? |
i'm 18 and i weigh 157.5lbs and i'm 5'9". and i'm of average built, i'm not tiny, neither am i boney, i look really normal size to anyone who sees me. for the last 2 half weeks, i've been skipping breakfast and lunch everyday, before hitting the gym, where i try to lose about 500cals a day. and do some weights. i make sure i never eat before gyming. after gyming, i might have a very light snack, before dinner. for dinner i try to eat 2/3 of a normal portion. so basically, i've been eating 1 1/2 meal a day, for 2 half weeks. lately, i've been feeling less energetic, having dry lips, slight double vision when i stand up, from sitting or laying down after a period of time. but i dont think i will stop till i reach, at least 149lbs. i have one week left of holiday, and i feel like i must reach that goal. do you think i'm on a verge of having an eating disorder? You very certainly could be. The problem is that your body has gotten so used to eating so little that when you try and eat based on a normal schedule again, you will feel sick and not want to eat normal amounts of food. Eat small meals throughout the day, be careful not to overload your stomach with too much at once or you will feel ill. At very least you're not dieting in a very healthy way. You haven't said enough for any one to tell for sure whether or not you have an eating disorder. Many people go on crash diets at least once in their life time and find they don't work. If you find you can't eat normally after reaching your weight goal or if you health deteriorates you need to see a doctor. breakfast is the most important meal of the day. last year, when i lost some weight, at first i tried to skip breakfast and lunch. skipping both made me very tired all the time. i think it is best for you to eat something right after you get up, skip lunch, and eat dinner like you are now. make sure you are drinking enough water to keep your body cool. If your eating then you dont have an eating disorder but try taking a multi vitamin to make up for the vitamins and minerals your not eating. Also what do you eat for your meal, try to eat more veggies and protein than carbs and fats. Also instead of eating late in the day try going to the gym really early then come home and eat breakfast. Yes. You might already be there. You feel like crap, but you are still continuing to burn yourself out when you "look a really normal sized" Slow down, eat some food, before you really hurt yourself. You only have some sort of problem if you can't STOP this type of diet. Remember, you'll have a better workout if you have carbs to burn off. I would get back on track with a normal diet. I'm not sure if having dry lips is typical when not eating enough, but I know the vision problem you are having is. Anyway, you can lose the weight without starving yourself. Trust me. I was a few pounds overweight and I lost 10 lbs. just by exercising and eating 90 calorie granola bars whenever I wanted a dessert. You can do it! You are more than on the verge. You really need at least 3 meals a day. You need to re-evaluate your reasoning behind losing this weight. The way you are trying to lose your weight is only going to end up hurting you. Your metabolism will never be the same. And after you have lost the weight and want to go back to eating how you did before, you will gain all of the weight back. TRUST ME! It happened to me! So, rethink your eating and try to eat 3 mid-sized meals full of healthy stuff, like veggies and fruit. Low fat protien for sure and calcium! If 3 meals seems like alot consider that many people have switched to 5-6 small meals a day. Imagine making yourself eat that many meals a day. So start with 3 and don't stop eating. Especially breakfast. Use egg substitutes which have little calories and no fat, eatin along with a fat free yougurt and you have a great start to the day. Lunch a salad with fat free dressing, low fat protien, fat free cheese, and a cup a fat free milk. YUMMY! Dinner, you can go lighter. Try a low fat protien, such as chicken or fish, with a steamed veggie. All meals are very low fat and if you drink enough water you won't feel as hungry. Also, drink up on the water. It does help you lose weight! Good luck, and remember quick weight loss only does more damage than good!! You will have better results this way and you will keep the weight off along with your exercize! |
