Has anyone who has ever had an eating disorder experienced a distorted body image? |
When I eat a full meal of food, for a few days afterwards, I see myself as being fatter. Is it possible that you can notice body expanding after one meal? Is this an example of a "distorted body image"? It is a distorted body image. Anorexics can look in the mirror and see a fat girl when in reality they are emaciated. i think the point of an eating disorder is the fact that people experience distorted body images Most people with eating disorders have a distorted body image. There's also a completely separate disorder known as "Body Dysmorphic Disorder," which has to do with having a skewed body image. yes it is possible. if you don't worry so much about youre size, you wont notice it as much. i never noticed it before, but now that i constantly think about my weight im think im fat...after eating i def. see my stomach as looking bigger! i'm not sure if it is really bigger or if thats just what i want to think is that the more i eat,the fatter i get. im not sure if that would be distorted body image...i wouldn't think so,but possibly. but yea so if you worry about being fatter after you eat-just don't look. maybe wear baggy[er] clothes...and dont look after you eat though like right after because the food isnt completely digested or w/e yet and is just sitting in your stomach...well its digested-duh but pretty much jsut sittin there....you know? dont pay so much attention tho and you wont notice as mcuh. k A lot of times I notice my stomach is expanded after a meal, but it's probably cuz I relax my abs more after meals. It just goes away with time though, and i don't consider it "distorted". However, on occasions when I binge, my stomach is hugely expanded and distorted for a longer time. duh evry one who has an ed or is ednos has body dysmorphic tendencies. wen u eat loads of food u do become fatter, cos u mite bloat. it's not a distorted body image I've noticed sometimes (a lot too when people tell me how skinny i am) that i look at my thighs or something and to me the look huge and i feel so fat but everyone around me thinks i am soo skinny. I don't know what they are seeing... i think you probably do have a distorted body image because logically after only one meal, that can't possibly make you any fatter, but emotionally and everything i know how that feels. |
