How can I get fit after recovering from and eating disorder? |
During Christmas break two years ago I quit eating for about two weeks for traumatic, personal reasons, and I lost 10 lbs. Before this I had never dieted. I thought I was a little chubby, but not overweight, or anything. (5' 1/2" - 130 lbs.) When I started eating again, it was very little, and I ended getting all the way down to 110 lbs. I couldn't tell the difference, but everyone else noticed. My friends/people at school all complimented me when I returned to school, and all the adults were worried. I, on the otherhand, fed on the positive feedback and began to moniter what I ate and exercized until I burnt 500 calories a day on DDR, plus my gym class at school. I ate around 200-500 calories a day, about about 1,000-1,500 on Saturday and Sunday, when I was with friends. I got down to under 100 lbs and was brought to the doctor, who told me I had an eating disorder. This terrified me, so when I went home I started pigging out on every "fattening" food I could find... Been where you are and there is hope. I'm going to suggest that you start a yoga practice first. You can purchase 'flow' yoga tapes through Shiva Rea's website (she's fantastic) or Rodney Yee. The thing about yoga is that it enhances your bodies awareness so if you are eating too much or too little you will notice it in your practice. I have become much more accepting of my body through regular practice. I'm stronger, I have more stamina and I know my limitations. Then I started adding in other forms of exercise. I really think it's the way too go for those of us who have suffered from eating disorders (it's also been proven to help with eating disorders by many therapists, treatment centers etc). Be well. I KNOW the absolute HELL it is. Email me through my profile if you need more support. Best to you. yes you can be fit if you got the will and motivation drink lots of milkshake but dont over do it and if you want to stop pigging out drink lots of water. small tips hope it help |
