Should I even be trying to diet when I have an eating disorder? |
I get lonely or depressed and sometimes I eat. I have a serious problem with this, and I wonder if a diet is really what I need. I admit I probably have a serious eating disorder and sometimes I have tried to purge what I've eaten out of panic of gaining weight. I am technically at a 'normal' weight, but I'm in the higher range of normal, my BMI is 23. But I feel fat and dissatified with my appearance most everyday, and honestly could still lose weight without risking my health at all. So, I know I need help, mentally. I am getting counseling soon; this has been going on too long. My question to you is whether you think I should continue with my 'dieting', or try to forget it all together for a while and just focus on maintaining my weight and not purging anymore. Focus on maintaining first and getting help. I was in a similar situation once and to be honest, if you succeed at dieting, there is a good chance with your current attitude you will take it too far. It's really important to get a healthy outlook about yourself first, or when you do learn to "control" your eating you are likely to restrict yourself far too much, and end up anorexic. It's really excellent that you are going for counseling, just take care of yourself and good luck! i eat when im upset too. but i have tried many other things to do when im depressed. like chewing gum or even running or shooting baskets. you can try chewing on straws. your not really hungry, but the chewing on gum/straws will take your mind off food good luck! psych counseling is in order and eat three meals a day life Not necessarily a diet, but you need to eat healthier and have portion control. Dont eat because youre sad or stressed, try going for a jog instead you will feel a lot better. Also the counseling may help you get your emotions out and you might just automatically notice that you dont eat as much take pills........that should help matters you don't need to diet just try working out for about 45 min a day this will burn some of the caloires you will eat this could be your diet.. Good luck |
