Anyone know how to help someone close to them overcome an eating disorder? |
I have someone VERY close to me that has an eating disorder and I want to know ANY way I can possibly help... Thanks in advance and if you need to give alittle more info than you can on here just leave your email address or something and I will contact you email me at 11591@teignmouth.devon.sch.uk im lou and i maybe able to help you -x- You need to get them professional help. I too was anorexic and I can tell you from experience that nothing else will help. I hurt everyone around me when they were trying to help me. Get them professional help. Good Luck! okay. so first off. if it is to the point where he or she is so emaciated that it is only wise to get professional help, its harsh, but you can force them to go to the hospital. say they dont want to (which no anorexic or bulimic would) it really isnt up to them, you can have them 51/50 if they are putting themselves at risk of death. that is the harsh reality of these diseases. second of all. if it is NOT as bad, like if it is a girl and she hasnt gone under 85% of her ideal body weight (which is 100 lbs for a woman 5 feet tall and for every inch after that add 5 pounds). if she is about 85% she is not at total health risk yet, and the best bet is for her to talk to someone. even if it isnt a psych. but it prolly wont get better until she or he does. oh and third and most important. pay attention as much as possible to this individual. show you care in all ways, but DONT talk about food, dont tell her she is crazy for thinking shes fat, do not talk about food at all. that only makes things worse, im sorry if this doesnt make sense. email me if u want any more information or clarification. hope this helps a bit. |
