Anybody know how to find out if your child has an eating disorder? |
Anybody know how to find out if your child has an eating disorder? My daughter started her eating disorder at about six years old. She began saying she thought she was fat. She began vomiting, periodically, and there was no cause for it, so we later discovered she was doing it when we weren't looking. We got her past it, by watching her everytime she ate. We did not let her know we knew. She'd eat and then excuse herself to go to the restroom. Then, she'd return, drink some liquid, and excuse herself from the table. If she couldn't go right away, she'd look agitated. We deliberately had the bathroom "occupied" or would discuss issues with her for about an hour after dinner. Finally, she stopped having the urge to vomit so bad. Often, kids who don't feel in control of their lives, start controlling their eating, so they have some mechanism of control. I really hope this helps. Easiest way is to simply observe his/her behavior. remember from before and see wat they are eating now, also make sure u check if they are barfing it back up on purpose u do this by keeping a close eye on them you look at them...if they are really really fat or really really skinny they probably have an eating disorder Start with a visit to your pediatrician Take her to the doctor or have a counselor speak with her. There are signs though: eating in secret, rapid weight loss, going to the bathroom immediately after eating, chronic bad breath and tooth decay, obsessive exercising. The sites below may help.
