How should you interact with a family member who suffers from a long-term eating disorder? |
How should you interact with a family member who suffers from a long-term eating disorder? be supportive and loving without enabling them Treat them like everyone else. I don't really know what you mean? Wouldn't you interact with them the same way you would with any other family member? Do you mean about how to talk to them about their disorder? The same as you would interact with any other human being....they have an eating disorder that doesn't mean you have to treat them any differently in social situations. treat them like a real person. Not someone with a disorder. Like a person. You should be normal around them. Maybe it will show them how "normal" people live. Unless it's life-threatening (like bulimia or anorexia), don't talk to them about it, believe me, they are already aware that they have a problem. If you say anything you will just make them feel worse. Just treat them/interact with them like you would anyone else. |
