How hard is it to deal with being an addict and having an eating disorder.?

I am an addict in recovery and am dealing with an eating disorder and find it difficult to find a balance and not let my weight get out of control and stay clean and sober at the same time.
Does anyone out there have any advice for me. My number one goal is to stay clean off drugs.

It's very hard, as you well know. BUT WORTH IT!! Good for you for getting off the ****. You need to keep busy. Hang out with people that have the same goals as you. You need support. And, your weight won't get out of control if you exercise, this will help with the stress too. Good luck to you!! Keep up the good work!!
God grant me the Serenity to Accept the thing I can not Change, Courage to Change the things I can, and Wisdom to know the Difference.

Dealing with anything is not hard. Deal with what is at hand at the moment. I think eating again is normal. After a little while cravings for food (substitute) will also ease.
First of all... *holds your hand* God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I can not change; the courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference. Amen.

It is VERY common to have other diagnoses along with addiction. Have you tried an inpatient program that is designed especially for people with duel diagnoses? There are lots of them around, and I think that would be something definately worth looking into. My younger (and only) sister passed away 2 years ago from an overdose of heroin and cocaine... I have seen several others die from it. I've seen even more people and thier families destroyed from it. My best friend (who was also very close to my sister) is currently in a wonderful rehab program and I have seen SUCH a positive change in him. He has been there almost 10 months, and has been clean the whole time. Before he went into this program, he had been in and out of psychiatric hospitals and short term rehabs 11 times. He suffers duel diagnoses as well... and I firmly belive that the only way that you can really get help for yourself is through long term rehab, and really changing the way of your past (people, places and things)

I hope that you will be successful in your recovery. I know how hard it is, and I know that having a mental illness/eating d/o makes it twice as hard. If long term rehab isn't an option, then make sure you get into therapy and go to NA meetings every single day. If you ever want to talk, my email is jw6667@yahoo.com You can messege me anytime...
Take care, be safe...
