he is only 20 months old and the doctors don't seem to listen to us. he has never eaten like a normal child. had to stay in hospital at birth d/t not eating. had to set alarms to wake him as he would not wake himself to eat. vomits regularly. does not speak-- few words. has had o/t since 9 months. nothing is helping. how long can he survive on just pediasure? very frustrating.
It sounds like your grandson needs a feeding specialist to address his oral-motor sensitivity. He also seem to have language delays and needs a speech therapist for that. I've worked with many kids who don't want to eat solid foods and it's due to several reasons. It's possible that the texture of the food causes discomfort or even pain. Or the chewing motion is painful to them. I've even heard theories that kids with sensory issues do not like the sound of food being chewed. Whatever the reason is, your grandson needs immediate and intense therapy so that he does not suffer from malnutrition. The feeding specialist will show you how to grade the food textures and how to massage his gums and do chewing exercises.
I suggest that you find a pediatrician who will listen to you and refer you to Early Intervention. Good luck.
