Last year i had an eating disorder and im still recovering...? |
does anyone have any ideas on how to keep me going from day to day with out slipping into the bad habit again? i give you kudos for recovering! also recovering is a hard process since it is so addictive like drugs if you understand what i am trying to say...just have your family keep an eye on you to make sure that you do not slip and fall to where you were before.also ask friends to keep an eye on you to make sure that you will not give into temptations when you go out or something...lastly you need to have faith on a daily basis and as hard as it may sound one day at a time is a good day..you need to take it slow, have your family as therapy that you can talk to,the people you can confide in,have more trust in others as well as yourself..if you do not take care of yourself first and foremost no one will if you have heard this saying before which is true!you have one body, one life and therefore make the most of your life!have food in moderation, stop obsessing over food, calories, fat, carbs, etc but rather enjoy food and don't look at it as your enemy but rather as your friend..you need food to survive..get yourself involved in different activities which keep you busy to stop obsessing about food or whatever thoughts you may have..lastly you need to think of yourself with the idea that you are pretty, you are smart and you are a survivor..in case something is interferring with your life and you are about to fall off the wagon then turn to family..you might also want to see a psychiatrist in just case..remember that tomorrow is a better day than today..set small, realistic goals and go after them! I think most people that have had eating disorders will have to watch themselves not to slip into that kind of compulsive behavior anymore. I had to for a while. And even still I find that I can be compulsive and unrealistic with other ideas in my life. I think realizing that is the difference. So there it is. Try not to take things so hard when you think about them, and taking a step back on things you feel you have to start hitting really hard. It will keep you from slipping into a pattern. Heh, I didn't look at a scale for well over a year. But I think the fear of slipping into bad habits probably did me just as much good as anything else. It made me examine my actions. Good luck. Former anorexic. I think it's about finding out what isn't working in your life, and keeping yourself on the right track with that, rather than focusing on eating and weight. Once you are doing what it is you really enjoy in life - it can take time to find that - then the need to hurt yourself like that can seem less important. You said you're still recovering.........but aren't you going to meetings? Don't you at least have a counselor to talk to about this? If you don't work on the issues that lead you to take all your problems out on your eating habits, you WILL go back to repeating those same things for the rest of your life. I'm not kidding you. You have GOT to get a counselor and work with them. If you learn better way to handle problems, crisises, anger, trauma......then you won't use food (or lack of food) to try and make yourself feel better about those problems. If you live with mom and dad.....talk to them about taking you to counseling and also read this: http://eatingdisorders.about.com/od/trea... And check out EDA (Eating Disorders Anonymous).
