In your opinion, what constitutes an eating disorder?

Does it mean you are thinner or fatter than you should be? Does it mean you hate food or love food, or throw up food? Does it mean you obsess over food? Does it mean you obsess about your body? Define an eating disorder, for real, not just from wikipedia or your psychology book. What is it?

An eating disorder is when a person becomes obsessed with body image, weight and food. It is normally because they are having or had troubles in their life where they coudln't control a situation. But it is not necessarily just because you want to be thinner, it can be because you want to control something in your life.
It's an abnormal relationship with food. An eating disorder isn't how you look really, it's a mental problem. Though most people don't think about that...they see someone who is perhaps chubby that has been diagnosed with ana or mia and think automatically that it can't be true because that person isn't a bag of bones yet that persona could be refusing to eat every day of the week then binging all weekend, like non-stop and that's an eating disorder.
ummmmm.....idk
Obsession with food. This can take various forms, including anorexia (when not enough food is eaten to maintain health and vital bodily functions such as menstruation) or bulimia (when there are occasional or regular food binges). Both types (especially bulimia) are often accompanied by purging, e.g. vomiting or laxatives, and (particularly with anorexia) exercising to excess. These are often triggered by obsession about the body image, the person may have started out weighing more than they wanted to (not necessarily overweight by medical BMI standards, just not as skinny as the models in the fashion magazines) but at some point self-image becomes warped, so a skeletal anorexic looking at themselves in the mirror sees themselves as fat. Bulimics may be at the lower or upper end of the normal BMI range and even overweight, while anorexics are dangerously below. Anorexics are often perfectionists in other areas of their lives, e.g. school.
