Can you get rid of endometriosis without surgery? |
My girlfriend has been in pain for a while now and the doctors gave her birth control for the pain. i too have endometriosis and the birth control is the best treatment, give it some time to get rid of all that extra endometrial tissue...there is no actual cure. Ultrasounds can not rule out endometriosis. Surgery is the only way to ACTUALLY diagnose it but most docs dont go that far if they control it with meds. Believe the doc with the birth control...hes on the right track with the meds and ultrasound (it does show sever cases) To find endometrisis you need to have surgury. yep, getting pregnant often helps There is no cure for Endometriosis but there are many ways to manage it. Earlier this year I was hospitalized for severe pelvic pain. I had been to the doctor numerous times with pelvic pain. They did transvaginal ultrasounds, pelvic exams, etc and kept telling me it was nothing. Well, one morning the pain was paralyzing and so I went to the ER. They admitted me to the hospital & did an emergency laprascopy (they make a small incision and look in your pelvis with a thin scope). The laprascopy turned into a Laprotomy (open surgery, cut from belly button to pelvic line) because they found a bunch of problems that couldn't be dealt with by just using the thin scope. They found a golf ball size cyst, a ruptured ovary, major inflammation, and severe endometriosis. I knew something was wrong but the tests kept showing nothing wrong. The pain that brought me to the ER was unimaginable....I honestly thought I was dying. So yeah, although tests show nothing, things can still be wrong. I would recommend she get a second opinion. There could be other things happening. I had my endo ablated/vaporized during surgery but it usually comes back. After surgery the doctor put me on monthly injections of Lupron Depot which basically puts your body into a state of menopause so the endo can heal up for awhile. I was supposed to get 6 shots but I only had 2 because of the horrible side effects. So now I am waiting for my regular cycles to come back so I can see how it is since surgery. My husband and I are trying to conceive but if we weren't, I would definitely be taking birth control to help with the endo pain. My friend manages her endo with birth control. My other friend manages with high doses of a drug similar to Advil. I hope my story helped in some way and I truly wish your girlfriend the best in finding some relief. |
