Driving restrictions in the UK with epilepsy?

Hi i am a 20 yr old epileptic, i have had 4 seizures in the past 3 years and i'm currently on medication for it which seems to be working well.
I am NOT driving and I'm aware that for me to drive within a year of having a seizure is illegal so i don't plan to!

I haven't YET reported my last fit to the DVLA because i want to keep my driving license for ID purposes, although i definately will report it when a year is up. Does anyone know whether this in itself is illegal?

Also i've been told by a friend that if i report it i will be sent a driving license with a code on it which says i can't drive but i will be able to use it for ID. Is this true?

I would appreciate advice from anyone who REALLY KNOWS what theyre talking about, no guesses please! thanks x

when i had my first fit i was learning to drive, and wanted to keep my license for ID, i didn't report the fit until the year was up (i didn't drive btw) and the DVLA just asked my Dr to confirm that i was now fit to drive, and accepted my word that i hadn't driven.
its difficult to arrange alternative ID because most places will only accept driving license or passport, which i don't want to take out in case i lose it.

i stopped my car insurance and sold the car :( so do you think this is proof enough or am i grasping at straws to keep my social life alive?!

Think about what you are saying. If you go to the DVLA in a years time and say I am reporting a seizure that occurred last year, they are going to assume you have been driving no matter what you tell them. You are currently carrying proof that you can drive legally, you know you can't so that in itself is fraud.

Get done for that and you will find cheap insurance non existent in the future.

You need another form of recognised ID.

Edit:

No reason to think your not genuine in asking or you wouldn't be asking. Alternative solution. http://www.citizencard.com/

I think it may be. If the rule is within a year for an epileptic fit then your last fit would technically be the start of your year. I know it may be frustrating but it's better to be safe. Why not pose the hypothetical question to the dvla and see what they say. Say you haven't got you license yet as a cover - just finding info out.

You have to be certifed fit free for a year by your doctor. You'll probably be okay if you don't drive, although you are supposed to report it.

As long as you're not driving then I'm sure it won't be a problem, if you were driving however then this would be a completely different kettle of fish.

you will get a code or they mave take away counterpart you can just say cant find it anway
