Driving restrictions in the UK with epilepsy? |
Hi i am a 20 yr old epileptic, i have had 4 seizures in the past 3 years and i'm currently on medication for it which seems to be working well. when i had my first fit i was learning to drive, and wanted to keep my license for ID, i didn't report the fit until the year was up (i didn't drive btw) and the DVLA just asked my Dr to confirm that i was now fit to drive, and accepted my word that i hadn't driven. Think about what you are saying. If you go to the DVLA in a years time and say I am reporting a seizure that occurred last year, they are going to assume you have been driving no matter what you tell them. You are currently carrying proof that you can drive legally, you know you can't so that in itself is fraud. I think it may be. If the rule is within a year for an epileptic fit then your last fit would technically be the start of your year. I know it may be frustrating but it's better to be safe. Why not pose the hypothetical question to the dvla and see what they say. Say you haven't got you license yet as a cover - just finding info out. You have to be certifed fit free for a year by your doctor. You'll probably be okay if you don't drive, although you are supposed to report it. As long as you're not driving then I'm sure it won't be a problem, if you were driving however then this would be a completely different kettle of fish. you will get a code or they mave take away counterpart you can just say cant find it anway |
