Help! Dog suffering from epilepsy! |
I had given my friend one of my dog's puppies six years ago, and now her dog is having epilepsy! I always remember her as being very hyper when visiting her but now she is suffering from epilepsy. I am not sure how long they lasted. She has been to the vet, they told her if it continues to go to him again and they will start medication but if the medication does not work the dog will continue to have epilepsy and die slowly... As it seems you are figuring out, I would highly suggest seeing if your friend can get the dog a better food. There are a lot of things not "needed" by the dog in the Pedigree (i.e. food coloring, chemical preservatives and fillers). Take a look at the label and see how many chemicals and other things you cannot pronounce are in it. I have a friend that has almost completely stopped her dog's seizures by changing food. She found out the seizures were being primarily caused by allergies to the preservatives, fillers (i.e. wheat, corn and soy), and food coloring in the food they were feeding. Your friend should try to find something all-natural and maybe even grain-free. There are several foods available such as Innova Evo and my friend is feeding Solid Gold Barking-at-the-Moon. There are some great websites out there dedicated to this for some more info and support. If your friends regular vet isn't much help (and it sounds like they aren't), your friend could try to find a holistic vet. Good luck! The vet is the place to start. Many dogs develop seizures and often they can be controlled successfully with medication. How often do the seizures last? My dog has epilepsy as well. If she hasn't contact the vet,s he needs to do so... if the seizures happen quiet frequently, most likely she will need to starting taking Phenobarbital ( anti- convulsant) to control the seizures. She also needs to keep a track of when the seizures happen, time of day, date. How long did the epsiode last? A grand mahl is 15 minutes or longer and very scary. Please have your friend contact the vet and bring her in for bloodwork to determine if she has epilepsy or if this was a seizure brought on by hyperactivity. The vet will guide you in appropriate treatment and help you hrough this if she seizes again. Remain calm, and good luck, dude get the dog to a hospital or a vet a hospital for animals idk what to do but hurry up and get the dog to a hospital for animals Has the dog been seen by a vet? That would be the first step. There are medications that can control epilepsy, if that is what she has. And the food has very little to do with it. It's best that a vet be consulted about this. Medication can help, but a vet will give a thorough, professional assessment and decide on any treatment programs. IF YOU WERE SMART YOU WOULD TAKE IT TO THE VET ASAP LIKE NOW!!!!!!! Why ask us? That's what a vet is for. |
